Anyone ever been to a chiropractor?

I've had lower back pain off and on for the last three years. Finally I broke down and made an appointment with a chiropractor. I've heard "iffy" things about chiropractic services (they don't really work, etc.) but I thought I'd give it a shot.

Anyone been? What did you think? Did it help your pain?

It depends on what's causing your back problems. If it's because your spine is out of alignment and a chiropractor can put things back in order, then it may help.

I go because it's free through my school and it has helped a lot - the muscles on one side of my back were working so hard it hurt a lot. Now, I just have a little soreness now and then with very little actual pain.

My chiropractor saved my bacon!!!! I had really bad spasms in my lower back. It started Friday... and kept getting worse. I looked in the phone book and started calling around. I found one guy who's office was just closing for the day. I explained my situation and he brought me in on Sunday!

I saw him a couple of times a week for a few weeks.

He warned me to watch out for chiropractors who want to start doing x-rays for no real reason, who claim to be able to cure anything and everything and those who want to keep you on a maintenance plan for the rest of your life.

He said his goal was to help me through my initial problems and then teach me the stretches and exercises I could do on my own to keep my back healthy.

Yes! My chiropractor has really helped me. I've got all kinds of back problems. With my therapy three days a week (now I'm down to two) I'm doing so much better. I can sit for long periods of time now. There were times when I walked bent over because I couldn't straighten up. My advice to you is to find a chiropractor and check him/her out. I wish I had went sooner.

Yes they help! Depending on what's wrong they might help a lot, and quickly! You should be able to find one who will do a free evaluation. They have many different philosophies of practice so ask lots of questions before any treatment. I personally like the ones who use extra treatments... massage, ultrasound etc. I find the adjustment has a more lasting effect if my muscles get very relaxed.

I've been going to my chiropractor since I was 17 (I'm almost 34 now) and it helps me so much! I work in a bakery, and we have to lift heavy bags of flour and things like that, so my back is in a constant state of spasm. As soon as I have an adjustment, it's instantly better. I also went while I was pregnant, and that was wonderful! Just being able to lay on my stomach for a few minutes was worth it, lol.

I have neck and back pain and have been to a chiropractor many times. Unfortunately for me the chiro doesn't really help me. I feel good for a day or two and then notice my pain getting a little worse. The massage therapy helps a lot more.

DH is at the chiro right now. He has severe back pain and has alignment issues (one of his ribs is frequently separated causing him extreme pain) and the chiropractor helps him immensely.

I swear by Chiropractic and Massage. So much so by massage that I'm going to school to become a massage therapist.

I have lower back pain too, but after having both hips done and now 41 years old. DH says go see one, and just having different x-rays showing nothing wrong with my back just arthridus in both hips. Maybe going to see one would work but I am :scared: .

My DH and I both love our chiropractor. It's amazing how much he has helped in our overall well being. He is absolutely the best of all our doctors.

My best friend, who died of leukemia 22 months ago, had been alerted to the fact that something was very wrong with her from her chiropractor. She had no idea she had leukemia, and she had gotten in a car accident and had gone to the chiropractor. He was the one that sent her for testing immediately.
