anyone ever asked to be DOWNGRADED at checkin??

I know a strange question but Has anyone asked to be switched to a less expensive room at check in?

Here is the possible hypothetical scenario for 2 families traveling together, ressies are made seperately and being paid for seperately...
Family 1 has ressie for CR Tower requests MK view has AAA disc.
Family 2 has ressie for CR wing requests North wing has AAA disc.

1 checks in but no MK view available so instead wants to be near 2 for convenience. Could they change it at the check in if a Wing room was available? Would a AAA discount be able to be applied to 1's new room so rate would be the same as 2?

It is possible to be downgraded upon check-in, as long as there is availability. Usually, the same rate code would then be applied for the lower rate, however, I can't always promise that would happen.

I keep doing these "what ifs" trying to decide on the best place to stay on our next trip. I know I will drive myself nuts for the next year until I can actually book something!

I asked to be downgraded at GF once when we'd booked a lagoon view and it was on the first floor and almost all of the view of the lagoon was blocked by a giant tree that was right in front of the balcony (it was in Boca Chica). I thought it wasn't worth the extra cost and was interested in downgrading to a garden view to save something like fifty dollars a night. However, the resort was booked and there were no garden views available...I don't know what the rate would have been to downgrade. GF did, however, move us to a much nicer lagoon view the next night so it didn't turn out to be an issue. It was a wonderful stay
