Anyone else worried about keeping their job right now?

Rex Rules - so sorry for your bad news. Im from Lexington NC and I know what its like to see plant after plant close.

Rex Rules-

The rumors about a sale in my division have subsided. The latest rumor was the interested parties had a meeting with our Board of Directors 2 weeks ago and talks broke down.

We had our Q4 performance meeting yesterday and our VP read an article stating that our company needs to get out of manufacturing (the side of the business I am in) and focus on real estate and timber due to taxes and investors. Times like these I really can't stand these Wall Street people. :worried:

I'm not worried about my job, I'm a stay at home mom, unless my children have a vote and fire me.

But I am worried about DH's. The company he works for is based in New Jersey, they bought the company that owns the factory DH works at 5 years ago. Now DH says the company is building a factory in China and from what he was told is going to be closing the New Jersey plant. Anyways, I guess out of all the factories this company owns, the one DH works at might cost the most to run, but brings the money in for the company 10X over.
But still, they can say all they want, when there is talk about any factories being closed owned by this company, I start to get worried. One minute they can close just one in the US and then the next they are closing them all and taking all the jobs overseas. DH said they are to have their "BIG" meeting tonight about what is going on, so we shall see.

odd this just popped up. I just resigned from my job of 7 years yesterday. hardest decison I ever had to make but it was for the best. I am taking a couple of rest days before I search again. they had put me through %&#$ and back so I need some time to get my head together.

Big Update here!!

Since the last time I posted, DH has found a new job. He already started last week and is staying with his parents during the week and coming home on the weekend. He will be the lab manager at a place that sells dyes to both textile and plastics companies in Charlotte, NC. The salary is less, but there is a bonus plan that could augment that.

So, once school is out in June, we will be packing off to Charlotte. We lived in Charlotte before and really loved it - many friends ( :wave2: SC Minnie) and family there, so this is a very good thing. Hopefully this one will last a while! So, everything did work out for the best!

Thats great news Rex Rules! Im very happy for you.

Well I have been with the new company since March 20. Its not going very smooth. There are some good things - I LOVE LOVE LOVE the location. It takes me 12 minutes to get here from daycare. And yesterday when I got a call about a showing on our house I was able to get home, vacuum the entire house, make cookies, go thru the Wendys drivethru and still make it back on time. So thats nice. And we're in a great historic district with newly renovated buildings and neat restaurants.

The bad is that what they told me about the new job and the reality are different. They want me on the phone more than I can handle with my TMJ. They made me sign a medical release so they can talk to my TMJ Dr. They are trying to figure out what to do with me. I think it'll all work out but for now its pretty stressful.

Lecach -
I'm glad things are working out with you, too. Seems things in Durham have been very tense the past couple of weeks.
Yes, often the reality of a situation and the "advertised" version turn out to be very different. Last night I asked DH what the best part of his new job was and he said being appreciated and not being expected to do the impossible every single day. It is less money, but him having a job he loves with so much less stress truly is worth every penny.

Well, our rumors were somewhat confirmed this morning. :guilty: They have officially announced the division I work in is being looked to 'possibly sell'. They have already entered into talks with 2 parties. One is the largest in our industry (we are #2) the other is an investment group out of Chicago. They already own a company that does what we do but are smaller. The investment group scenario would mean that most people in the corporate office for the div(here) would keep their jobs. The other one there is doubt that they would need us at all.

Rex Rules-- Give me a call when you come to town. Another one of our friends is also moving back!
