Anyone else think this new deal stinks??

We switched our ressie at Pop yesterday. We are within the 45 days and already paid. By switching to this deal we pay more up front than our 30% off room reservation, so they waived then change fee. They do not figure in the gift card into the package total. So although we pay less overall, because of the $300 gift card, we paid more upfront so we were not charged the change fee.

It looks like you are going in Jan/Feb. You might want to check your numbers to see if a split reservation would be better. We saved more by booking a 5 day package with gc and then a 2 day room only reservation using the 30% general public room code. We can use the tickets from the package for the whole week. Our overall plan is exactly the same, only no ddp for last 2 days which works out better for us - cheaper for us to pay oop for the last 2 days. We will use the gift card for 2nd night of room only ressie, oop food for last 2 days, and ddp tips. :cool1:
We are currently at WL woods with a 40% off. I was thinking about doing the 5 with GC and then 2 nights alone but the only way we really save anything it to have the standard room. While that is available with the giftcard, it's not with the 40 %off when we go in Feb. Also, do you have 2 reservations now since the extra days are a different promo? Thanks. I would hate to have to change rooms kind of mess up a day plus we have a baby travelling with us and it's just a pain to check out and back in.

Also we really don't need the tickets, one AP holder, plus I have 4 one day passes that we were going to upgrade to AP for the other 3. With this I'll end up with a 5 day and my original 4 one day passes. I guess I could continue to collect them but who knows when I'll actually use them since the last 2 offers require multiday ticket purchases-not the 1 day as in the past.

I currently have a 5+2 at POP. To change to get the gift card would mean paying more out front but when we got there and got the card it would mean paying $92 less. Now there is a change fee of $50 so I would only be ahead $42. I don't think it is worth the aggravation. Last Jan. we got 4+3 + $200 gift card, which was a much sweeter deal.

karliebug, i called last night and asked about this and was told there would be no change fee, even though my client is w/in her 45 day/paid in full period because she would be "upgrading" to a "more expensive" (upfront) package...

Does anyone know if the Gift card can be used to pay part of the DDP?
and you pay the difference. or pay on your package?

Nope.

People seem to forget that prior to 2009, the ONLY offer Disney ran on MYW packages for April/May travel was the FREE ticket upgrade (park hopper and water parks and more option). Sorry, but I'd take a FREE gift card ANY day over a ticket upgrade I'll never use. For me, it's worth it just to pay for my gratuity and booze. Heck, I'll probably use the whole thing at Jellyrolls! :lmao:

The economy might still be in the toilet, but it's a fact that Disney lost profit with the promotions they ran last year. They are obviously trying other means to get visitors to their parks during their 3rd quarter. Sure the 7 for 4 may have worked for people on an internet discussion board, but obviously it didn't work for their company's bottom line.

Karliebug, when are you going? The most expensive nights I see for jan-march is $160 for a preferred room during New Years and President's Day, which would only be a $320 savings; thus the GC would be an additional $180 savings. How are you getting a $92 savings? Also, I don't think you should have to pay for the change since you are giving them more money. I think they only charge when they have to give you back some money.

As another PP said, you can also try a split stay with the GC deal if you can get a discount on your last two nights; otherwise I think it will be the same price as doing a 7 night stay with the GC deal. I think Disney has some room-only discounts out right now for Jan/Feb. We are doing a split with the GC deal and our 20-30-40 code. With the 20% off on those 5 nights staying at a value, we would save $105 per room; with the GC deal, we are getting $300 per room. Planning on two rooms for us, so a get deal over the PIN.

Has anyone recieved a pin code email since Monday, Dec 21, when they introduced that new offer? We are going in Aug with the deluxe meal plan so it really doesn't work at all for us. Heres hoping for more pin codes to be sent.:confused3

I just received a pin code today (Dec 23) for 20%/30%/40% which can be used all the way to the end of 2010 (with some blackout dates). :cool1:

So yes they are still sending pin code emails.

I doubt it, but do not know for sure. However, it would still be a big help to pay for your third daily meal plus tips plus alchohol.

Thank you, thank you, there is still hope!! :dance3:

for my friend, it's $900 for her 5+2 deal at a value resort... w/the gift card deal it's $1100 (round figures) for the same package components (standard room, 7 day base tix, no dining plan)... so, the savings is approx $100...

we just booked for April and are getting the GC. I was told that the card can be used to pay for FUTURE trips, if there is a balance left. But we plan to use ours to pay for gratuity, snacks, and drinks . . . that all adds up so quickly and it will be nice not to get the bill at the end of our trip hanging from our door!

To the OP, the great thing about Disney is that they keep sending PINs and releasing discount offers so that almost everyone's dates are included in at least some of those deals. Are all the offers equal in value? No. For some people free dining is best while for others a room discount is best. IMHO this gift card deal is quite flexible and offers a lot of ways to spend the money. Instead of looking at it as a deal that 'stink's think of of a a deal that doesn't appeal to your particular needs.
