Anyone else think the new Tink is a little....racy?

I was thinking of getting DD a few Tinkerbelle things for our Disney trip, and I pointed them out to DH who replied...."No way! Tink's looking a little risque there." I noticed that the new digital tink was a little sexier than the old version, but I was surprised and a little amused at DH's reaction. We passed on the Tink stuff though.

I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed, or if we were just prudes.:snooty:

Just prudes. ;)

I do too, but not for my 6 year old DD.

Tink is being marketed to the "after the Princess" set.

Disney is doing this generational marketing thing - babies get Pooh (and some Princess stuff), little girls move on to Princesses. When you outgrow Princesses, you are supposed to move to Fairies. Tweens get Hannah Montana and High School Musical.

You'll find some cross merchandise, but the Fairies books are really written to be read by third and forth graders - where Princess books are still read allowed or early readers.

So, I think you are right - a little "old" for your six year old - because she's supposed to be appealing to your nine year old.

Hasn't Tink always been a bit racy and sexy. Afterall, she is a villian. I will take Tink anyday over Bratz and some of the other toys out there.

I see both sides of the coin here. I think that depending on how she's drawn, because let's face it she can be alot more innocent on certain items more than others. In '07 I bought my then 23month old a tee-shirt with Tink on it that had her posing sitting "indaian style" arms crossed and eyebrows nitted(sp) and a cute phrase that said "Fresh out of Pixie Dust". It was soooo cute and captured my youngest daughter perfectly and Tink looked appropiate. Then while we were there this year I saw lots of merchandise with Tink on it that were for older girls I would say preteen and older. So it all depends on the artist interpertation of Tink and what she'll appear on.

I do think the new tink is still just as cute as the old one. I have two daughters (10 & 3) and will probably buy items with Tink on them for both girls just make sure that they're age appropiate.

T.

I think that at times Tink is drawn looking mischievous and cute. At other times she is a little saucy. I've seen her with lots of cleavage, thigh, and booty. I don't want my dds wearing her then. I also don't buy the princess stuff when they are drawn extremely busty with lots of shoulder and cleavage. No Disney gals gone wild in this house! :rotfl:

The stuff I have seen lately of Tink seems racy IMO. I guess I am a prude because I watch the stuff I buy for my kids. The images must be appropriate and the clothing must cover appropriately. I know I'm old fashioned, but kids grow up way to fast. They have the rest of their life to be an adult, but only a few short years to be a kid.

ITA w/ you! :thumbsup2

maybe i'm a little confused, but didnt she always look like that? i know we watched peter pan a few months ago (we were watching all the movies that have attractions at the parks before our first family trip) and both DH and i noticed how scantily-clad she is in it. her skirt doesnt cover anything and her little underwear are always showing.

i've seen alot of tink merchandise and it struck me much more with the original movie than with anything i've seen recently. my sister is tink obsessed. there is tink in literally every room of her house-- she's a single mom of a little girl (so no men to argue :cutie: ). even her kitchen appliances are pink to coordinate.

Agreed.

Tinkerbell is NOT a villian!

Hmm. So hung up on PP that she keeps trying to keep Wendy away from him, and if hazy memory serves doesn't she nearly lead Wendy to harm b/c of her feelings for PP?...maybe not a full on villain, but not sweetness and light, either.

It's been forever since I've seen Peter Pan, so we're going to watch it next week for family night. She's always been sexier than most of the princesses (except maybe Jasmine), but I just thought the new digital version had a slightly curvier figure and some serious bedroom eyes. She didn't look like a Bratz doll or anything though! I still love Tink, and fully intend to get DD Tink stuff, but maybe later. I just thought DH's "Not on MY baby!" attitude was funny.

He's can be so gross, but give the man a little girl, and all of a sudden anything but Mary Poppins is too risque. :rotfl:

Tink is a villian. She is so obsessed with Peter Pan she tries to murder Wendy. Remember the part of PP with the mermaids? She also helps Hook in an effort to get rid of Wendy. She might not be a full out meany, but certainly is not innocent. I think that is why the preteens and teens latch on to her so much. She has that bad wild side.

I think this topic is so funny. My 4 year old has a purple tink room...no racy tinks in there...I also think she is a bit of a villain, but turns good in the end.

Since the figure of the original Tink was modelled on Marilyn Monroe, I think she's always been a little sexy. I just bought dd a tink bathing suit from TDS and didn't notice any drastic change in her appearance.
