anyone else think the current promotions are a budget buster?

Trying to decide if it's worth it, or just wait to go in the fall. Even if we get the free dining code it is only for QS for value and mods. We would want to stay mods Regular plan.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is going to hold off and go in the fall...

But I have heard rumors that the QS at the mods is going to be the norm whenever they offer FD.

No...a vacation is not a budget buster, because you have control over it. A 'budget buster' is something you have no choice about, money that has to be spent whether you have it or not.

The rumors about QS being the promo for the mods pop up every year, particularly since PIN codes and overseas offers have been that way for a while now. I could see it happening for some of the free dining periods throughout the year, but I think Disney is always going to need a little better discount to fill rooms during the traditional free dining window (back to school/hurricane season) so I would be surprised to see it change for that specific timeframe. It just isn't a desirable season for family travel, between the start of the school year and the potentially horrible weather FL gets (every bit as hot as summer, peak potential for hurricanes, near-daily rain, frequent thundershowers).

And the Canadian offer that was available last Fall for 2012 Hurricane Season bookings, was regular DDP for the mods and deluxes and QSDP for the values.

I had heard that Disney was going to scale back their discounts. Based on the most recent offers, it looks like that rumor is true. Word has it that even though they were getting heads in the beds and feet in the parks, it wasn't generating the revenue that they had hoped.

I don't think that we are going to see 40-45% off rack rates, kids stay & play promotions or free dining that includes the regular plan if you're not staying deluxe or buying two or more days of tickets.

It's not going to affect my plans because free dining is not an especially good deal for my family. But I can see a lot of people being disappointed if the fall free dining offer is not as good as it was in previous years.

Personally, I would just go at whatever time of year that I like. I wouldn't rely on possible discounts to determine when I go.

Received a PIN code the other day for May and it's 10%! Bahahahahaha! The general public code floating around right now is better than that!

This is what I am thinking too. The commercials they are showing for WDW now are basically advertising value season rack rates at the All Star resorts. IMO, this is a sign that they are planning to scale back the discounts because for the past few years I've only seen WDW commercials associated with a promotional offer. I am at the point where waiting for discounts from Disney to see what kind of trip we can take and when we can take it isn't something I want to feel tied down to doing anymore. If staying onsite and paying for the dining plan isn't something that is doable for a trip we want to take, then I am at the point where I am comfortable with looking at other options like the DTD hotels or getting a condo at Windsor Hills or Bonnett Creek and having the ability to purchase my park tickets at a lower price through AAA or Undercover Tourist.

We are Fort campers so we have never tried to wait for any discounts, just go when we want. If we can make it 3 times in a yr. we get the AP's and TIW card. Otherwise it's OOP. We have never had nor do we want any dining plan. I've heard so many people stressed over hurrying to get from point A to B and not have time to do such & such because it seems so much time is taken getting to and from ressies. We enjoy going with the flow and almost always get in a restaurant when we want. We cannot eat all the food on the dining plan and it would be a waste, especially the desserts. We would rather eat lighter and enjoy a dessert in between. We also do not do TS every day, but about every other day. I just hate feeling stuffed, and everyone I talk to on the DDP says they try to order the higher priced menu items to "get their moneys worth". Well, you also have to tip on that full amount, dessert and all, whether you eat it or not :scared1: It really isn't "free" as most of the time it's either the dining or room discount. Depending on size and ages of family, can see where some would get a better deal with the dining. :goodvibes I do think there will gradually be less discounts or very little - in fact we're already seeing it - had a 5% discount on our campsite in April - what's that? Whoopee!! :rolleyes1 But we love it there, and we'll go til we can't :lmao:

We are going in March and I have for grins looked at how much my trip would cost had I booked it now and because of the benefit of free dining it would have easily been 1K more..
