Anyone else think Glow Fest is terrible?

IMHO I have the same problem with glow fest I have with other parks and with Dca. I dont think Alcohol needs to be involved in family fun. I just dont. With all the rides and other fun things to be had why do we need to drink to I just dont understand it. And from what I hear theres lots of beer at Glow fest. As for the rest of it its not my cup of tea I would avoid it like the bird flu if I were there. Personally I dont see it being around long, but you never know I guess :confused3 according to the Disneyland pod cast I listen to apparently on the Disney surveys it was getting better reviews then world of color.

ITA - I don't think alchol needs to be involved in family fun PERIOD

We all really liked Glow Fest! We were thru the area three different nights to get to Tower of Terror and dallied there for 10-15 minutes each time. The energy was positive and upbeat. And it drew night time crowds - something DCA has struggled to do ever since it was built.

..exaclty hydroguy.. this glowfest for DCA is like a breath of fresh air—it’s something that is in a way helping the park. But also people are still getting the wrong idea of glowfest, it’s not a rave. It’s a family orientated outdoor dance party, yes they have $10 martinis, but that is an option for people over 21, I have not yet seen on person abuse the drinking in the park rights. I do see a lot of little kids and teens and families just having a BLAST!! And with the entire new music lineup, it just keeps getting better and better each weekend. This past weekend they did a dance step follow along, that WAS very fun! :cool1:

That is what I saw. Kids and parents were dancing all over including the areas where they had the dancing projections - shadow boxes? It was a very fun environment and nothing raunchy at all.

As for alcohol, DCA has always been a bit edgier than DL and targeted a slightly older audience. Glow Fest only runs thru late August (if memory serves) and since it was a short term thing I think that helped them decide to offer the glowing drinks - and because it fit the "color" theme they are promoting this summer. And, as I said, it is drawing people there for the first time really.

Alcohol is served at DCA, DTD and the hotels. So that is nothing new in itself. Having it in the street is new. But short term.

Hdyro, it’s not really a “street”, and no one really seems to abuse the portions..and like you said the DLR serving alcohol is nothing new, heck doesn’t club 33 offer adult beverages also?

..and glow fest screams fun. The shadow boxes and projections, the heat signature camera’s it’s all fun for the summertime DCA/DL crowd!! And I like that DCA is a bit edgier, if you had two parks that gave that happy go lucky feeling (like DL gives) then it would be boring..

The other thing.. I saw more adults this weekend then any other having the children’s drink then any martini

..and just to point out. hydro guy knows what he is talking about everyone..he knows his stuff!! :cool1:

It seems like the OP's problem specifically is with the alcohol being served. For many families, it's not a big deal to have a drink or two in front of their children (like my family). "Family friendly" environment can be interpreted many different ways and I feel that it is a "Family friendly" environment because there is so much for the kids to do while offering the adults something at the same time...something for everyone in the family. I could see it being a problem if it got abused and people were getting wasted and barfing all over in the streets but I have yet to hear of that happening once.

My wife and I usually head down to the bar at the GCH at the end of a long day and have a drink to unwind, it would really be nice to have one in the park while our kids are having fun dancing. I hope it returns in some form next summer!

You know you can buy alcohol all over DCA... In fact I think they are even building a restaurant with a beer garden somewhere near Paradise Pier. Another fun fact.... You know Disney holds a site wide liquor license for Disneyland, yet they only place in that park they offer alcohol is inside Clib 33. I think they are trying hard to keep DL "Kid Friendly" and DCA more "Teen+ Friendly"... I wouldn't be surprised to see Bugs Land disappear (I'd even welcome it) :thumbsup2

I think that families that don't want alcohol involved in their fun are free to not have any. And if they don't want others having alcohol in the presence of their family fun, there's a whole other park right next door with their name on it.

It's true alcohol is served all over DCA, and you can walk all the other streets with drinks. I guess it's not noticed as much when it's just another concession and not lit up like it's part of the EXPERIENCE. I personally find the hawking of overpriced glowing cups a more offensive practice. I love Sea World, but selling overpriced, junky souvenirs is so them. Disney seems to more often take the higher road of keeping the souvenirs in the shops.

the bold part.... i agree with that!
it's not like disney will ever remove the adult drinks from DCA, your better off going to the other park... ;)

I do not mind that alcohol is served at DCA or at Glowfest.

My observations were apparently different than some others. When I went with my DD (7), I did not see any other young kids except for the boy sleeping in his dad's arms while they were waiting for mom who was on ToT. I tried to get my DD to dance, but she was uncomfortable, no other kids around, only adults and teens dancing in the area.

We sat down for a while to take it all in, and that's when I observed it felt "wrong" for her to be there.

Now, others have said that their families and kids all were there, I guess at the time I was there w/DD, we were just on the wrong end of the street?

I dont mind the drinking.... I liked the Glowfest- but DH did not. He said it was lacking something.... maybe if they could somehow project Disney images on a wall in those crazy colors... and bring in some Disney music and mix it with the music and beat they already have going then maybe it would be better. Like techno disney music! :lmao:

and OMG Crazyduck- they can not get rid of Bugs Land! I love that place- in fact... there is hardly anything for my toddler to do at DcA as it is... Bugs Land, Monsters inc, King Tritans and the mickey fun wheel is it! Well besides the redwood trail and the shows... but still- they cant get rid of Bugs Land- I love it at night time! I would not mind if they chopped off that huge water run thru station at the front of Bugs Land- and got rid of the Farmers stands and such to make room for a Marvel ride in the future- they could gut out most of the wharf for Marvel rides and I would be happy hehe!

I thought they played the pogo remixes of disney music during glow fest?? Was this just an initial thing?

I could see how young people would like the Glow-fest. It really didn't do anything for me, but then again I'm WAY outside the target demographic. We popped in a looked about and then beat a hasty retreat.

I did not hear any Disney music either the 4th of July weekend and the following weekend. Would have been nice. :goodvibes

you are right, there ws no disney techno music.. justin beiber is not diseny. and they do have the up remix still--i love that one! an they had madonna remix's and the new song by train hey soul sister remix, and stuff like that, so like 80's- current hits and pop hits but with house music mixed in, very good mix! :goodvibes

I didn't think I would like Glowfest at first. I initially thought it was a ridiculous attempt at creating an outdoor club scene. But then, I was at DCA a week or so ago, and when my friend and I stepped out of the Tower of Terror that night, we heard the Black Eyed Peas playing and saw everyone dancing and having so much fun. I couldn't help but have fun along with everyone! Folks were having such a good time--kids and adults alike! The enthusiasm was infectious! We opted not to have any alcohol, but we still had fun and we didn't see anyone get drunk or act inappropriately.
