Anyone Else Think 180 Days is too Far for Dining Reservations?

This is what I am trying to understand. How many of you that make your reservations 180 days out do that for any other vacation or set of meal? What makes you like doing that for Disney but no where else?

For us personally, we plan our meals in advance at Disney because we tend to eat more on a Disney vacation than any other. When we go to Las Vegas we're fine with grabbing a burger or eating a quick buffet, but at Disney the dining experience is so much more. Most Disney restaurants have a charm and magic of their own that makes them just as fun as visiting the parks IMO. Obviously I've never booked 180 days in advance since it's a new policy so I can't say if it's too soon or not. All I know is Disney says I can do it that way and I will because I want first choice at our selected restaurants.

i might have already posted ( couldn't find it and can't remember) but imo it's to long and is only done so Disney knows how many rooms they have sold 6 months out so now they can give even less discounts! i think they got taken with the free dining last yr and don't want to make that mistake again. now since if you want an adr you have to book a room they know who is coming earlier, before they release any promos. boo hiss boo. we plan our trips to a degree on what is offered when and now i am wondering if we can do that or have to bite the bullet and pay full price and hope for a promo that might not come. again i say boo hiss boo

The only other vacation we're currently planning is for Las Vegas (just three days) the end of April. We alresady have a reservation for Emerils Delmonico Steakhouse. We made that ressie three months in advance and the earliest time we could get at 10pm. So yes, we and others apparently, make ressies far in advance for meals we want to eat I will probably try and make one other ressie for while we are in Vegas (anybody have any ideas?) because last time we went we didn't have any ressies and couldn't get into a good restuarant to save our lives.

I usually plan a vacation a month or two in advance. I can't even imagine deciding where and when I'm going to eat 180 days in advance! I give a lot of credit to those who are able to do it but I just don't care enough about any particular restaurant to go out of my way like that.
