Found out yesterday, that we are striking over the pensions.

I must admit, i have no idea what's going on, i pay into the union just in case i need them to represent me (touch wood never needed them and will never do)

I tend to glance over emails and delete without taking in whats being said. And post i get tends to be placed in the same place as junk mail, :)

Unfortunately myself and DH are in the same union. so means spending an extra day with him :rotfl2: :lmao:

Anyone else striking

The strike is because the Government is trying to change the pension terms and conditions of certain members of the public sector- the Unions feel it's unfair that the Government can just change their minds about a scheme that people have been paying their money into, in good faith, for many years. If you check out the Unison website it explains it all.....

Righto, I work for National Government.

At this point in time we have defeated their plans to rip us off, only for the moment i expect. Hope it all goes well.

Not sure yet as I haven't had any mail or e-mail about it though I did vote.

Only been in my job a few months & I too work with special needs children so we too might be exempt.

Have you been given a date?

I'm a civil servant and we assumed we'd be striking too-strength in numbers and all that-but theres nothing been mentioned for us. We've been striking on and off for the last 2 years-each strike day is one day less at WDW! :sad2:

It is 2 days in our household as we are both members of the same union

Hopefully they call it off at the last minute

What professions will be striking? I just want to know how it will affect my daughter's primary school.

The last strike about pensions that was planned was called off as the Government agreed to re-open negotiations- however to no avail. So there is a chance it may be called off again.
Joanne- I don't think teachers are affected, but teaching assistants are, and are likely to strike. I have heard that some schools may have to close if they rely a lot on teaching assistants (e.g.they actually take lessons in some schools)- your school should be able to advise.....

I work for a college in Wales (in the Admissions department), and as a UNISON member will also be striking.

DH seems to think that this one will go ahead as the last one was near the elections.

If it was to be called off when will the lastest time they will tell us, as i'm on a rest day before the actual day.

I think strikes can be called off right up until the last minute. Even if you weren't told directly by your employers if that was the case, you would see it on the news.

So yet again, the rest of us who don't have the advantage of inflation proof pensions, that cannot retire at 60, who, in many cases have seen their pensions dissapear with their employment, if they have any pension at all, have to suffer because the Government workers who have had their pensions topped up at our cost already are going to strike.

Hmmm only because most of the civil service dont get paid enough to privately fund a pension scheme throughout their career. I have so much to say on this matter but it would be best not to. I will get my coat ;)

IMHO, I come on this website to get away from this and as it appears to be degenerating quickly maybe we should draw a line under the topic. This is a fun forum not a political agenda.
