I saw this on Saturday, while I really loved the special effects, parts of the storyline were so ridiculous. Of course I'm talking about the walk from just north of Phili to NYC:rolleyes: I mean, could it be any more ridiculous. Why couldn't they have them walk from uptown or something, even that would have been quite a walk and definitely more believable. I know it's just a movie but that was so far-fetched it kind of almost ruin the movie for me, because I kept saying, this is ridiculous. Also, the boat floating down the street, but then again, thank God that happened otherwise they never would have been able to get on board and get the medicine:rolleyes: All and all though, the special effects definitely made up for the lame storyline. What did you guys think?

I thought it was stupid. I found many parts laughable. The effects were great though.

My DD and I saw this and thought it was funny, but were told it was very serious and scary on another thread and we were insensitive. I am glad other people thought it was funny (mainly because the situations were so dumb).

I didn't think the special effects made up for the lame storyline. They were not that great especially in comparison to stunning films like the Lord of the Rings.

I was utterly bored during this film and absolutely could not wait for it to end. What a waste of an opportunity to really say something about global warming....something that would be taken seriously. Now all the politicians who are out there using this movie as an example look like total fools.

I agree-it was a silly story-there were things we laughed at-one of which was when the son told his Dad they were in the library-and he said ok I'm coming...hello..which library?? And the fact that the library was almost completely covered by snow and ice-yet they had a fire going inside-no smoke to be seen...hmmm..

Loved the special effects........hated the story line.

However, have you folks also had the FULL THEATERS? We did.....this movie is raking it in!

Comical when a bad movie is a popular one! :p

Well, it just came out and it's a disaster movie filled with special effects. I'm not surprised the theaters are full.....now. Give it one more week and we'll see what kind of legs it has.

Bad movies get full theaters all the time....look at the Star Wars prequels. The other movies directed by Day After Tomorrow director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day and that godawful Godzilla) were also special effects laden, nonsensical, derivative junk, yet they also had full theaters (in the case of Godzilla, very early on because that movie was truly awful).

I agree that the effects could not make up for the awful "storyline". My mom dragged me to this one last weekend. She tried to pretend that she liked it until the scene where the wolves are chasing the kids on the boat that's lodged between the buildings of Manhattan. We both just started laughing out loud.:hyper: Other people joined in as well. The theatre was sold out. I think it was sold out due to the poor choice of movies that seem to be out this year.

with the OP. the storyline was stupid but I liked the special effects. I like disaster films. I'm glad I saw it

Ummm... I am in the minority... I was talking to my brother who lives in NJ and he said north of Philly could be anywhere from 90 miles on... and if it took them a couple of days to get there, that was actually believable knowing they had done that type of walk in the past (we did the math on it and it was doable). I really enjoyed the movie... made me think about "what if"

I just wanted to know what kind of major disasters were coming after all the ice melted. So much for the rest of the survivors. ;) Of course, the ones in the NY area could still use that ship to ride it out. :p

I agree that 90 miles isn't a lot, but if you take into account that the average person walks about 4 miles an hour (and that's with perfect weather conditions, remember they were walking in a blizzard) that's 360 hours, divided by 24 is 15 days and that's walking straight with no sleep and we know they slept because they had that flimsy tent to sleep in at night:p I think it might have been a little more believable if their car had crashed in Jersey City, at least that's right over the bridge. But I do agree with you that it did make me think "what if", it certainly is a scary concept and I hope to God it never happens.

This is a little off-topic, but why are you multiplying the 90 miles by the 4? If you walked 4 miles/hr., then you'd be walking 8 miles in 2 hours, 12 miles in 3 hours, etc. You should be dividing 90 by 4, to get 22.5 hours under perfect conditions.

4 miles/hour x 22.5 hours = 90 miles travelled :D

Our entire theater laughed out loud at several parts...I thought the special effects were cool, but the storyline completely absurd. The main thing they could have done to improve the movie (IMHO) was have more of Jake Gyllenhall in the buff...
