Anyone else sad about being solo (and not at Disney) over the holidays?

Hi all,

this may be due to being newly single (since May, after 10 years of marriage!), but it's been rough going through the holidays as a solo. Thank goodness I have my wonderful daughter (5 years old), who is also my travel & Disney partner to keep me company (I don't have family nearby).

I mostly cheered myself up by planning a few Disney trips: 2 days at DL in January, 2 days at WDW in March after a work conference, 6 days at DL in April and 2 days at DL again in June! All booked and ready to go (I live in Phoenix and have an AP to DL so I go often, it's only a 6 hour drive!).

Anybody else in the same boat? Do you also use Disney to cheer you up? Does it get easier with time?

Julie

Hi sorry to hear about your marriage situation and that your having a rough time during the holidays. Nevertheless, I am glad to learn that you have your daughter and Disney to lift you up. I'm single (never married nor do I have any kids) but since I have been single all my life I am used to spending the holidays alone. Like you I use Disney and planning trips to keep me occupied in fact I actually enjoy reading travel books and researching places to plan for future trips (I'm going to Iceland next month). I also enjoy going to DL nearly every other week (I live about 10-miles away) which always makes me happy regardless of the season. Unfortunately, I can't tell that it get's easier with time since I've never been in your situation but I would suggest you continue to do what makes you happy.

Totally understand how you feel! It definitely does get easier. It's just going to take some time. I have used Disney trip planning and these message boards so much in the past year to cheer myself up. It's great to have something to sort of "get lost" in. The holidays are the hardest time to be alone. So hopefully once we get into 2016, you will start being able to look forward and focus on you in a positive way. :)

Thanks! You're going to love Iceland. I was there for a week about 4 years ago and loved it. His variety in landscapes and tons to do. Highly recommend glacier hiking and the hot springs!

I have to wait for my little one to grow into Disney age (only 1yr), but I definitely feel ya on that.

I've been too busy with work to make the two hour trip down to WDW in the past month, and not being able to go during the holidays has been the roughest.

No matter how alone someone may be, there's enough people at WDW during this time to make sure no-one can feel lonely!
