Anyone else re-thinking their fall cruise?

I was just wondering if there was anyone else out there that has a cruise booked for the fall who may be re-thinking it after the recent hurricane forecasts?

I'm cruising in mid-October and am sticking with my plans, but remaining flexible. I am sure the captain of the ship has no more interest in cruising through rough seas than I do. They'll take us wherever is safest, and if it is the Western or Southern Caribbean instead of the Eastern Caribbean then that's okay with me. I'll just carry a Caribbean travel book with me so that if we end up having to go to a different port, I have information readily available on it.

Besides, just think of how many times hurricane forecasters have predicted light seasons and then we've been walloped with hurricanes, or they've predicted a lot of storms and few have occurred. Regardless of when you travel, you're always going to face some risk of bad weather. I've seen countless cruise reports from other times of the year with people indicating choppy seas and bad seasickness, and that freak wave that hit that other cruise ship recently wasn't during hurricane season. Unless your heart is absolutely set on hitting particular ports, I say travel in the Fall and take advantage of the cheaper rates.

This will be my fourth cruise during Hurricane season and we were only affected last year by Hurricance Frances which shortened the cruise from 7-day to 4-day cruise. There was a lot of tension trying to get to the boat but once aboard, everything was perfect. Trip insurance is always available.

Not at all. We don't worry about things like that until they happen. Most of the time the weather people can barely predict the weather for the weekend much less months from now.

We can't wait to cruise in October! Whenever I get to go south I aim for this month! If we worry about the "weather" I would never get to leave Cincinnati! Have a great cruise!

It's pretty rare to have a lot of hurricanes in October. By the end of September, the worst of the season is over. It's a cheap time of year for cruising without the high risk of September.

That is too true!!

We are going Sept. 24 and we are so excited!! :sunny:

We're scheduled to go Sept 17 on the Eastern Magic.
We got insurance, so if there's a hurricane and we're not able to get on the ship, we're covered. :umbrella: We'll just reschedule.
And if we're able to get on the ship, the worst that will happen is a change of itinerary. And (I always say :earboy2: ) "As long as I'm on the ship, they can take me wherever they want to take me!" :cloud9:

Don't get me wrong, we would be really disappointed if we had to cancel our trip due to a hurricane, but it's a risk we take with sailing during that time. So we're going to just go with an open mind, and as long as we get on the ship, we will have the time of our lives no matter where it takes us! :cool1:

I grew up in southeast Florida and lived in the "path" of many hurricanes the 25 years I lived in Florida. We have had many hurricane seasons that were very quiet and the event's of last year were extremely unfortunate. However, they are not the norm. I have yet to see them predict a hurricane with complete accuracy when it's on it's path so I would be skeptical of a forecast months in advance. Get the trip insurance and roll with it. September is a wonderful time of year weather wise in Florida as it starts to cool off a tad. I am hopeful that the carribean is the same.

Not at all! We live in eastern NC and have had too many hurricane eyes go right thru our town. The way I see it, you can't stop living for several months out of the year just because of what could happen. If we need to make adjustments we will.

Nope! This will be our third cruise during hurricane season and cannot wait!!!!

Hi UGAFan - remember me??? We're on the Oct 23 cruise too. We're not worrying about Hurricanes. We'll just "roll with it" . DH loves an adventure so if a storm pops up, we'll just sit back and ride it out. Maybe we could have a "Storm Party" in one of the lounges. By the way, the dh of the friends traveling with us has been thru 5 hurricanes and was evacuated during 3 of them, so he's used to it.

See you on the Wonder!!

Kris :wave2:

146 days till we leave for our 30th Anniversary cruise and a few days at POR/WDW.

We went on the cruise last September that was affected by the hurricane - we had a few rough hours and we had to dock about 10 hours early but hey they put us up in the Swan & Dolphin and we got 50% off our cruise this year :cheer2: So guess what? We are going again this September!!!

We are sailing DCL September 29th and I have a girls trip on Carnival Oct 10th.... Bought insurance and ready to go!

I'm not concerned, I'm going on my first cruise no matter what. I can't spend my time worrying about something I can't control. I will have a great time no matter what.

Becky
