Maybe it was the expectation of seeing a "really great movie". DSs all saw it, loved it, we had to see it, etc. DH and I went yesterday. It was "okay". 3 stars out of 5 stars and that is being generous. I think that more of an explanation at the beginning of the movie to explain the "details" would have been more helpful than having to back track half way through the movie to make it more coherent. Would I watch it again when it comes out on DVD? Probably not.

I thought it was long, loud and boring with too many car chases and gunfights. It certainly wasn't the "smart, innovative thriller" the reviews said it was. Cliched lines and too much borrowing from movies like The Matrix. Based on comments I've read from moviegoers, people seem to really love it or really hate it. I wouldn't watch it again and thought they should have paid me $9 to watch it.

I'm not nearly as generous as you. I'd give it zero stars out of 5. :rotfl2:

My boys also touted how great it was and we MUST go see it. I've accused them of tricking me, but they stand by their original praise of it. My DH also hated it. He got up and went to the snack bar during the middle of it and he's NEVER done that before.

As I've said before, it's the worst movie I've seen since Pokemon several years ago.

I pretty much thought it was a longer, less straight forward, more full of its self, Shutter Island.

Yeah, didn't wow me either. DS wanted me to go again with him and I said no thanks. Went alone to see Dispicable Me. Now THAT was a good movie. :thumbsup2

It's probably just not your kind of movie. I haven't seen it yet but I do think it's my type. I just need to find the time.

I can relate though. There have been some movies that were popular and I saw them and thought "why?"

It is becoming a very polarizing movie for sure.
When I saw it, reviews were widely favorable and I personally did not know a single person who didn't love it. When I saw it, I did think it was great, but was surprised. It is definitely not the type of movie I would've expected everyone to love.

For me it is still not the Nolans' best movie. That for me still goes to The Prestige, a movie whose praises I will never stop singing.

Inception - We saw it today, and I'd give it a 3 out of 5. Not as good as I'd hoped it would be.

I LOVED Shutter Island :thumbsup2. I was also reminded of it today because of Leonardo DiCaprio's character's background story with his wife. But Shutter Island was way more my kind of movie.

I also LOVED The Prestige. And even more I liked The Illusionist, an unrelated movie but which was sort of in the same style. That is one of my favorite movies ever.

Memento
? Saw it twice and liked it. I need to watch it again.

Batman The Dark Knight? Didn't like it at all.

Not to mention blatantly ripping off an issue of the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck

It may not be your type of movie. Doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad movie just not your type.

I actually thought they explained TOO much from the beginning - there wasn't enough mystery and questioning for me. Though I still really loved it.

The most interesting thing to me was how much effort was made to make the movie appeal to an international audience - a French actress, a Japanese actor, an Indian actor, a French actress, a Canadian actress, DiCaprio international box office, Michael Caine for the graybeards (I can say that, I am one), a flight from Australia, a scene in Mozambique, etc. Very calculated.

I saw it opening night and am glad we did. Really loved Inception, but I did not have expectations going in to it. Sometimes, watching a movie that I have too much hope or thoughts about makes me like it less on viewing. Same as when I read the book first. Raises the bar.

I saw it a couple weekends ago when my fiance visited me for the weekend. I had heard of the movie, but knew nothing about it until we were sitting in the lobby of the theater and he told me a little about it. I didn't think it would be my kind of movie, but I liked it a lot. The only thing I didn't like was that it was a long movie. Okay, so maybe it didn't help that we went to the 10:30 PM showing after a long day, lol.

 Me! Me!

It really had potential and started out pretty good but it really go long and confusing and although MANY loved the ending, I hated it!!!!!!

I totally agree. I didn't like it at all. I had a hard time actually paying attention to it :p I understood most of it, but I just didn't feel like thinking too hard about it. When I go to movies, I want to relax and just "get it". I don't want to have to actually think about what I'm watching. (Oh, and I knew it would be that type of movie by the trailers lol...I was forced to this movie :p)

It was just too loooooooooong. And boring.

UGH OMG DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED. I was already angry with this movie before the ending, and when they ended with that..UGH. I have never gotten so mad at an ending. You can't do that to people.

Actually, I thought it WOULD be my kind of movie. I love action, mystery, twists, everything it's supposed to be. So, to me, it was a bad movie when it had all of the elements I usually love and it fell flat.

I didn't realize it was from the same people that made The Prestige (big thumbs up). :thumbsup2

I have to disagree. I loved Inception because it was so very different from the usual movie. But I do agree that The Prestige is Nolan's masterpiece. I saw it again recently and that movie just blows me away. Genius!

Nothing bores me more than gunfights and car chases. So that, combined with the fact that we were at the 10pm showing.....yea, I slept through most of it. That was an expensive nap.

I thought it would be more of a suspense/thriller movie. What I got was sci-fi. I just don't get sci-fi. My boyfriend does, and he liked Inception, but didn't love it. I wish I could get those 2 hours of my life back

Maybe it was just our theater, but the background noise was so loud...I couldn't hear the dialog. The mix was so off. If I could have heard the dialog and actually understood what the heck was going on, perhaps I would have liked it...who knows!

:lmao:..I'm the total opposite. Unless something is blowing up, I am just not engaged (it's my short attention span and fascination with shiny objects!)
