Over the past couple years I have noticed that these are becoming very popular Christmas decorations in addition to the traditional string lights. I'll admit, the very first one I ever saw I thought was kind of neat since I had never seen anything like it before. But now I see them everywhere and I personally think they are eyesores, especially when multiple people in the same development have a bunch of them. I sort of find them distracting from the traditional lights I enjoy so much. I don't mean to put down those people who may have them, I just prefer string lights Christmas decorations.

Another trend (at least in my neighborhood) that kind of bothers me...it seems that people used string lights for all the other main holidays in addition to Christmas. I mean, I've always seen people decorate for different holidays, but it hasn't always been with string lights. I've always looked forward to Christmas as being the only time of year that houses are aglow with lights. Now it's commonly seen throughout the year...St. Patrick's Day, 4th of July, Halloween and others.

So what's your opinion about the inflatable lawn decorations?

Me, but my 2 1/2 yo seems to get a kick out of the snowman ones.

I completely agree with you - I dislike those things very much, for any occasion.

Someone at Halloween had these two 6 foot black blow up spiders on their lawn, those things scared the * out of me. Why in the world would someone do this?

Someone else on my block had a spinning Halloween tree and lit up their whole house in green lights and blew a smoke machine for the weeks leading up to Halloween.

I think they look goofy. Every year, this family down the street from my sister's house puts up a Homer Simpson and a snowman. Everytime dd3 sees it, she yells out, "Look! Simpsons!!!" lol.

My kids love our Santa/Rudolph. I could see if there were a bunch all lined up in a subdivision would look kinda gawdy. Ours sits lonely on 6 acres. Looks pretty cool. My favorite is our Lit Choo Choo whose wheels "roll" and puffs "smoke" :cool1:

So long as I don't object to their inflatable whatever, I hope they don't object to my pink flamingos and 1970s-themed front lawn furniture. And, the scattered beer cans, naturally.

Can't we just do a classy string of white lights? Would it absolutely kill us to have our block not look like PT Barnum vomited on us from the heavens?

I have a Penguin one. it isnt huge but I love it. I collect Penguins so its mandatory ;) LOL

I dont mind one or two but my friends neighbour has 6 yes SIX of them in her yard, thats a little much IMHO but whatever floats your boat, if it helps them be in the Holiday Spirit more power to them :)

DH and I have pondered getting one..if only to annoy the HOA nazis. :teeth:

TOV (who has to go now cuz Bugsy is screaming for his bottle..BRT sweetiebugs!)

They are scary to me......

We live in the country so I could put up anything I want, but these things do scare me. They are too overwhelming.

As we were coming home last night, we happened to see one of those big snowmen in someone's front yard. We had a lot of wind and snow last night and the snowman was doubled over and appeared to be very interested in the candycane he was holding. DH and I saw it at the same time and for some reason it just struck us both as so funny.

I don't mind them one way or another. I don't have any but we're not decorating outside this year.

I don't mind them, but I don't mind pink flamingoes or tacky 70's lawn furniture either. I think they look best when the house is set very far back from the street and you don't realize how big they are... in fact, that's what I think they were designed for. The first time I saw them was near my parents where the houses are very far back and I thought they were cute... not so much when they loom large right in your face though.

I did see the absolute cutest one the other day... it wasn't so big and it was snoopy sitting on his doghouse, decorated with lights (snoopy as red baron). I wouldn't mind that one.

DBF and I get a huge laugh out of them,we make jokes at this one we always pass when going out for pizza

OK, I know, to each his own.... right??? But what happened to Christmas??? I see these blow up lawn ornaments EVERYWHERE. ( I think that some of them are really tacky). But what happened to "Christ". I know I am probably opening a can of worms, but I never see a nativity scene anymore. :cool1:

I'm starting to get a little tired of them, it seems that everyone has them these days. They're great for an accent, or a once-in-a-while thing, but when every house has them it looks really cluttered.

Now when they're NOT inflated, those look pretty funny. I saw a snowman the other day that wasn't inflated, and it was resting against/over the bushes behind it. Looked like a 3D chalk outline ;)

I agree!!!

I had to threaten DH with his life when he started his Clark Griswald-like planning this year. Of course, I won. Tasteful white lights on the house, in the garland, on the tree and mantle, white candles in the windows, etc.

I refuse to let my house look like a beach bar.

You should come to my neighborhood. My neighbor across the way has a big plastic light up nativity scene. We had a VERY windy couple of days and I kept finding the wise men in my front yard.

Not everyone celebrates the season because of "Christ." It's great for those who do but many people just enjoy the secular aspects of the season. That doesn't make their way of celebrating wrong and your way right, just different.

I hate them! They are the modern equivalent of those tacky plastic yard ornaments that always faded in the sun and looked horrible!! Yuk! Yuk! Yuk!
