Anyone else not really care about view?

I did not want to book a special level, but unfortunately when I went to book trip at Beach Club, they only had garden views and up available, so I guess I'm getting a garden view. :confused3

If money were no object, I would probably request certain views, but I generally do not pay for a better view. While I don't want a parking lot or rooftop view, I can't see paying extra, particularly if staying value or moderate. I am much more concerned with the location of the room than I am the view. I stayed WL several years ago, booked Woods View (which was the cheapest available at the time) and was upgraded to probably the best view at the resort. We were on the 4th floor looking straight out across the pool, the geyser, to Bay Lake. That same year we rented BLT points (standard) but had a great view of Bay Lake. I've been to a couple of conferences at YC, staying convention rate, which I assumed meant the worst views there, but was pleasantly surprised. Once we were in a second floor room overlooking the quiet pool. Very quiet, private, but quite a hike from the lobby. The next year I did put in a request to be closer to the lobby. I fully expected to be overlooking the front entrance or bus stop. Instead, we were given a waterview 2nd floor room, overlooking the gazebo and Boardwalk in the distance across the lake. At night, we could see Illuminations fireworks from the balcony.
Rather than pay for a view, I'd rather roll the dice and take my chances on a little pixie dust. Then, if we get a great view, wonderful. If not, it's still not a big deal. Afterall, we're still at Disney!

The view does matter to me. Now, for people who are at the parks from morning til night, I understand that paying extra for a view does not make much sense.

I've been to Disney a lot, so we are not at the parks from sunrise to late at night. As a pp poster mentioned that some standard views might also have loading docks with beeping trucks early in the a.m. like our standard at WL did.

One trip to CS we had a standard view and it was behind the bldg. with a wide expanse of parking lot (no grass) and I didn't like it. It felt isolated. Even though I wouldn't leave curtains wide open at a mod or value, I like walking out the door to a nice view or sitting outside the bldg. with coffee or a cold drink, snack or to use the cel phone.

There are certainly pros and cons to wanting a view and not needing one. We had a boardwalk view at BWI and I agree with the pp about watching the activities from the balcony. It was really nice!

I was all set to agree that "view" isn't a big consideration for us. Then I saw gojoe's pics (post #12), and I may be re-evaluating.:scratchin :earsboy:

I stay Value, and use the room pretty much for sleeping and showering so no, the view doesn't matter to me.

I don't either, even at AKL. I would totally book a pool view if I stayed there. There are soooo many other places to look at animals all over the resort.

Now, I'm not saying I can't appreciate a good view though. We stayed at YC and had booked a standard view CL room and were upgraded to a lagoon view CL room, and the view was gorgeous!!! However, my view was "free" and I would not opt to pay for it. :goodvibes

This!!! We always pay for standard view, and a few years ago we were upgraded at check-in to a gorgeous view of Crescent Lake!! But I wouldn't pay for it either!

In the past, I didn't find views too important. I'd book standard and then just request the best area/view in that category. But last trip I stayed at BLT and had to book a lake view. Wow, it was really nice. I'd consider booking a higher view category in the future. Plus the factor of service areas/dumpsters right by your room decreases sometimes based on the view category.

For me, it depends on the resort. Values, mods--who cares? AKL--I need a savannah view. Most other WDW resorts, I don't care too much. I don't like a pool view because they are generally loud. Of course, even when not paying for any type of view, I've never been by dumpster or other work areas.

I couldn't care less but of course since I'm staying at the Fort, all views from my window are lovely. :) I'm just thrilled to be at Disney World!!:cool1:

Staying at Riverside in less than a month...totally ok with a standard view. I didn't come to Disney for the room view...I came for the parks and the experience.

I don't care a about the view either but location is important to me. We like to be close to the bus stops and/or main building. Those walks can be hard after a long day at the parks. Even at AKL/AKV the view doesn't matter to us--there are so many places to view the animals from and the time we spent viewing them doesn't justify the extra cost for the room.

We have never cared about our room view at ANY hotel except if we were on a beach vacation and we then would book ocean front view.
Having said that, I don't care if we are looking over a roof top, swimming pool, parking lot, etc.....we are never in our room (especially at Disney) except to shower and sleep. Means nothing to us.

My DH does NOT like to pay extra money for a view, :) that said, we DO pay extra for CL, for that, we feel like we are getting something a bit more for the money. We have had bad views (WL) and pretty good (BC). AKL CL in 13 days, so we will see! But no matter what I'm sure it will be fine.

Don't care about the view; location is more important -- away from the noise of the pool. We only shower and sleep in the room. We don't ride a lot of rides, but do just set around the parks a lot so when we get tired of a view, we move onto another one! When we are tired, we go back to the room to sleep. Distance to the bus stop isn't even that important for us, since we usually don't have plans to be anywhere at a certain time anyway. Keep in mind though, that we are "seniors," the kids are raised and gone, and we just enjoy doing what we want, when we want, where we want. Guess things change with age; what is important to many people on here aren't so important to us anymore (not that they weren't, when our kids were small. Fortunately, things weren't so complicated at WDW back then.)

This is a good point-- about the noise. Say you want one of those rooms at BC or WL that face the lakes? In the evening you here the constant horns of the passing boats. I almost forgot about that! If quiet is important to you, mention when making your reservation.

This last trip in June was the only time we ever requested a view. We stayed at AKV with a view and it was amazing! We unfortunately just sold our DVC so I have no idea when/if we will do that again.

We don't care about the view, but we do enjoy it when we have nice ones. I think the only time we have paid for a view was at AKL, a few other times we had upgrades (if you want to call them that). I think the only thing that would bother us is if we had a horrible view, we are happy with most of what is out there.

I've always loved a great view. We've even paid extra. I like to pull our room chairs out on the walkway, late at night and have a drink.
Last trip I was at Pop and I thought I'll just see where the magic put me!:thumbsup2
Well, I was in the very last room on the resort, fourth floor, last building. There were so many empty rooms between me and the main building.LOL
I did have a small sideways view of Little Mermaid through the trees and could see Hourglass Lake if I looked just so...:rotfl:
I didn't mind, I just pulled my room chair beside the giant bowling pin and enjoyed.

The view is not very important to me. I'd prefer not to be looking at a rooftop but other than that it doesn't matter much to me. I'm not one to pay more for a certain view. I care more about location of the resort, park time, etc. And I never put in a room request. I like the surprise of seeing where we end up. I guess I'd rather leave it in their magical hands.

AKL would probably be an exception to this. I haven't stayed there but if I do it could definitely factor in.

That is us exactly! We always stay at the Poly, never request a specific building. We also like the surprise of seeing where we end up. We book the cheapest room (standard view). Cheaper room = more nights for us! Plus at the Poly it is very rare to get a bad view. This was our last standard/garden view, in Fiji.
