Anyone else not feeling the magic with their guide?

We have had about 5 guides since we bought in 1994, and our current guide is one of the best (only the original guide came close). Rob Schapiro keeps us updated by sending monthly emails, calls to let us know about any DVC news and has answered any questions we may have. He is friendly but not overbearing and not pushy, just there to have the answers to our DVC questions. We are very pleased with him as a guide.

I feel very fortunate to have the guide we have now. He is outstanding. Orginally when we first toured the DVC center back in 2001 we had a guide who treated us like we were bothering her. She left the room during the middle of her presentation and said, "Here just play around with the computer and see what you can find". She said she would be back in 5 minutes. 40 minutes later she came back in and said so what do you think. We had numerous questions and she told us she had an appointment and we could call her once we got home from vacation. NO KIDDING!!! We left the center feeling like we wanted absolutely nothing to do with DVC ever. :sad2: After a year went by and we stayed at OKW in a studio we bought resale ASAP. We then called to speak to a DVC guide. We were put through to this same lady's voice mail. I left 4 messages none were returned. Finally I called and demanded to have anyone call us. We then had another guide call and he informed us that the female guide was in management now. HOLY COW SHE MADE MANAGEMENT!!!. :scared1: This guide transferred our membership to him and was great but he ended up going to California and we then were transferred to the guide we have now. When we vacation at Disney we always stop in and see him.

My guide calls me back promptly if I get his voice mail. Beyond that - I don't need a "friend" - I need someone to process my transaction to purchase more dvc points when I want to. That's all I expect, and certainly didn't buy dvc thinking I was buying a new "friend", too :rotfl:

These guides are sales people, and very busy. I'm also busy - my guide is very nice, but I don't need a personal relationship with him. I just need him to be there for dvc purposes when I need him - and he is.

We've worked with Judy K. as at least one other poster has mentioned. We started talking to her in 2004. She has been "No pressure" all along, and has answered more questions than I can put a number on. We only got an occasional postcard with her name on it after we decided that we weren't ready then. She has even stayed late so she could call us when we would be available to talk to her. And it isn't like she wasn't already busy during these times. She gave us the info we wanted, and let us work it out, didn't try and push it on us or make us feel like we were wating her time. She also remembered us after we hadn't called for over a year. Buying was a good experience from her.

As someone who grew up with a father who was in sales his whole life, and my own employment has been in sales. Sales is based on relationships, I dont care what you are selling. "relationship" doesn't mean, like some have inferred that people expect a person to be their bestfriend. But you better figure out what drives your buyer to buy, or sell, what their priorities are and what makes them tick (this requires not being a royal jerk to them) It also means they will be more likely to call you with that initial innocent question that may evolve into a purchase down the road.
Commission checks demand that sales people work hard at being friendly to people. If sales people were order takers who got commission checks everyone would want the job.
I congratulate the numerous DVC sales reps who have obviously found out what makes their clients tick- no pressure, soft sell, only pressing at time sensitive moments to be sure they dont lose out, etc.

I've been happy w/ my guide, Judy. She never nags, never pushes, but really knows her product and has a knack for making my dumb questions seem not-so-dumb. I "inherited" her from my sister, who has been a DVC member much longer than I. I was amazed when Judy and I talked how easily she could refer to family things that my sister brought up in the past. Now that's relationship building!

Eyore, I think that you nailed it perfectly. Their entire careeer and paycheck depends upon how they approach things. In their line of work just like any other there are good ones, ok ones, and the not so good ones.

Mine provided what I needed and it paid off for her. So I think what I'm reading here if you don't like your guide, get a different one. There are a few names to ask for specifically. I am one of the lucky ones.:

When we first bought I was not so sure about my guide. I even thought about requesting a new guide. But now I really like my guide. Not only do we have here direct number, but she has given us her cell and home number. I really appreciate her work and have referd many people to her.
