I am in the learning process myself and thought it might be fun to share tips and have a place to ask questions, etc.

Anyone else care to join in?

Pretty new ITouch owner :) I've been getting help from a co-worker with an IPhone, but I think she's getting annoyed.

I'm in!

I think we're from the same generation (and area!). We just didn't have anything like this when we were growing up, did we? :lmao:

We had 45s, LPs, 8 tracks, cassettes, and CDs. I'm sure you, like me, bought the same music over and over again, lol. I have quite the extensive CD collection so I never really felt the need to have an iPod. My kids had them, and I sort of watched them download songs (DH helped them) and listen to their music, but I really had no interest in getting one myself.

I got an iPhone this summer and just last week finally got around - for the first time - to figuring out how to put some music onto it (thanks to my DS). I had so much fun going through all my CDs I started in the evening and actually saw the sunrise the next morning. Yup, Mom pulled an All Nighter loading music onto her iPod.

CDs? What are these CDs of which you speak? Are they related to 45s? I had cases of 45s, and a bunch of albums... all of which my sister tossed when she cleaned out my parents house. Just as well - my stereo went years ago!

No music yet - but I did recently download some (free) tv shows/clips. And I've been going nuts with apps! That's all I really wanted was the apps. Now if only JetBlue had one...

I'm looking at getting an iPod touch in a few months (a christmas present to myself.)
I have an iPod nano and I love it to death, but when I watch tv shows on it, obviously the size of the screen makes it slightly difficult. (My mom was like "why are you watching tv shows on that tiny screen anyways?")
I cannot wait for christmas to come around, so that I can buy one. :thumbsup2

So, I guess if I had to make a recommendation, don't watch any tv shows or movies on the iPod nano. You'll strain your eyes.:headache:

Confession: I googled Touch and asked DD what a Nano was to figure out what they are. :teeth:

I've been going nuts with apps!
Which ones did you get?

That's something I haven't done yet. Trying to decide what I'd put on there.

I have owned iPods since 2005. My first was one was an the first gen Nano. I had that for a few years until it broke during a move. I have an iPod Classic now that I use for music and I have an iPod Touch that I received as a bonus for my workplace. I use it mostly for games, certain apps and to read ebooks.

I have it turned off right now (something I had to be taught to do :umbrella: ) but, let's see... I have one folder for shopping: QVC, HSN, Woot, Staples, Amazon... one for 'savings' sites like Groupon; bunches of games, mostly in folders but the two I play a LOT are Coin Dozer and Cookie Dozer; I've got a folder for math apps - never know when you're going to need to factor a polynomial :rotfl: a folder with Pandora and another radio station and some favorite music artists; one with TV stations; one for print media; a folder with optical illusions apps; a couple with travel-related sites...

Um, some specifics...
I've got the DIS, of course.
Comcast (I think I can control my DVD? Or do I need the phone?).
WDW and Disney wait times, with no trips planned :teeth:
AA and AAA (discounts on the latter, not overly impressed).
Facebook, Google, Bing
Library of Congress, I think the Constitution - or all Constitutional law, that one took a LONG time to download.
Southwest - all the Dings are out of Manchester so far
something called Park Patrol, for warning - and being warned - about meter maids ;)
Some financial stuff, some history stuff (presidents, the country)
A bunch of joke and pun sites

It was the video aspect of the touch that has me loving the thing. This is iPod no.3 for me. I had a 5th Gen Video (30 GB), and still use it in my 2 year olds room for music. With 2 kids (6 and 2), I haven't had much of an opportunity to watch anything on tv for years. Now, I hop on the subway (only a 1/2 hour commute) and presto. I have been catching up on pretty much everything I have wanted to watch, but with bedtime routines haven't been able to.

I'm getting the iPhone at the end of this week. I wasn't sure I needed it as I like my Blackberry but my kids said this would be soooooo much better as I love my ipod and I can put my music on this. OK so how do you find typing with a touch screen? Is it much harder then a keyboard? I also need some great apps.

I love my ipod. I've had about 4-5 mp3 players, and the ipod nano is so much better. I have 3 or 4 ipods. I think one of them is out of order. I have a yellow, blue, purple and one still in the box.

I hate my iphone. Well really it's AT&T that I despise for so many reasons. I have a Droid X on order with Verizon. The contact management on the iphone is worse that what I had on my old Treo. I've had so many dropped phone calls with the iphone 2 - I can't imagine how bad the 4 must be for all the flack it's getting.

I'd like to go back to Sprint, but their coverage in Mississippi and Southern Arkansas is not good. I drive thru there on a regular basis. I can go two hours without even seeing another car so I really don't want to be without phone coverage.

Since everyone is so helpful here and learning lots (on my end).. I have just started to get the hang of the IPOD touch ... but I noticed .. regarding my email.... I have 2 set up which I read all the time....
but if I pass my TOUCH to my kids to play the games .. they have access to my email also .. how can I avoid them to read my emails while they use my TOUCH to play the game apps???

Its been a hard transition for me from Blackberry to Iphone. I have had it about 3 wks now and to be honest...I miss my BB...but...

I am sticking with it...it will get easier. ;) I am just used to the BB display and how it works and that is the issue for me. The email/text/calendar on the front page.

but...the Iphone does all kinds of other cool stuff..and apps are fun too. the camera is fantastic on the I4....and its easy to send the pics.

I have been taking care of my 2 yr old granddaughter for the past week. Before she came I put on free toddler apps on my Iphone. It has been so fun for her. Has become one of her favorite things to do with me this last couple of days. She has learned so many shapes, has gotten so good at a memory matching game. She has just amazed me how fast she learns. I also have a playlist for her with all children songs on it. Mickey Mouse March, Elmos Song, some Barney stuff, I'm a little teapot, that kind of thing. It has really worked well to take up some time and she has learned so much. She goes home in 2 days, hope she wows her parents......or maybe she will just drive them crazy wanting their phones....not my problem, I quess....it is good to be Grandma and then send them off!:yay:

I LOVE my itouch! It does so many things that sometimes I forget it plays music. Does anyone play Words With Friends? It's like scrabble, you can play against friends with iphones or itouches. It's so fun and addictive.

Unfortunately there isn't a simple way to do this. The passcode lock is designed to prevent anyone from using you iPod should it ever be stolen. It don't allow you to lock out apps.

There is only way I know to do this, but it can get annoying after a while. The same way you set up your accounts is how you control it.

On your iTouch, you do the following:
Go to SETTINGS.
then MAIL, CONTACTS, CALENDARS

Once you're in MCC, you will need to click on each individual account. In each account, you will need to turn the account off and possibly delete the password. First thing you can try to do is to simply turn the account off. If this works, then great. :thumbsup2 This is the fast and easy way.

Sometimes simply turning off the account won't work though. If your kids really wanted to see your e-mails, all they would need to do is simply go into settings and turn the account back on. Don't put it past kids to know how to do this already or figure it out. If they figure it out, then you will need to also delete the password. They would need to know the password to turn the account back on. To do this, do as I mentioned above but also delete the password. To delete the password, click on the PASSWORD tab and just hit the backspace key until the password is deleted. Once you delete the password, click on DONE. Depending on your account settings, it will warn you that the server is not responding. Click OK. After you press OK, click on DONE again, It will ask you if you want to SAVE or EDIT the changes. SAVE the changes. At this point, your accounts should be disabled. If you click on the mail app, you should see the WELCOME TO MAIL screen to set up new accounts. If you get this, you did it right.

Now the annoying part to this is, you would need to do this each and every time. Once you are ready to check your e-mails, you would need to go back in, enter the password for each account and turn each account back on. Just follow the same steps to turn them back on. Only takes a minute or 2 once you get the hang of it. Just a pain to remember when you just want to go in and check your e-mails right away. :headache:

Hope this helps.

Folders? On your iPod Touch? how the heck do you do that? I have pages and pages of games that I keep on for my kids and would love to put them in a folder.

This one is easy. Click and Hold any app with your finger till it begins shaking, then once they start shaking: drag any app and drop it on another app into which you want to create the folder.

Example: I have Pandora and iTunes. I hold my finger on the Pandora app until it starts shaking. Once you see it shaking, drag and drop it on top of iTunes. It will create a folder. It will name the folder for you if you like, or you can rename it. The just press the home key and you're done.
