Recipes :stir: to the t.

I have always seen recipes as "suggestions" and Ideas for me to follow at will.

My husband on the other hand will not and has never deviated form what is written by the "recipe gods"

I always follow the recipe...otherwise my kids may not eat it!
My Dh on the other hand can take a bunch of leftovers and make it taste like a 3 course meal...he is amazing!

I only follow recipes when baking and usually only the first time I make it.
I get asked a lot for recipes and I always struggle because everything is a dash of this, a scoop of that. DH is the same way. I'm trying to show my sister how to cook a few things and it's driving her nuts because she is not someone who enjoys cooking.

I follow recipes to the T the first time only - just to get the general "gist" of the flavors intended etc. After that - I use it as a guideline and add or modify to suit our tastes.

I never follow recipes--they're a nice springboard, but I'm always adding a dash of this, or substituting that.

Once you spend enough time in a kitchen, you begin to understand the basic rules that make everything work. Then you can get creative and have fun!

I often have trouble writing down recipes for friends. It's hard to quantify how much a "dash" or "handful" is.

DH doesn't cook much and therefore doesn't feel very confident in the kitchen. He defininitely will follow a recipe exactly. He once asked me for a recipe to make spagetti with Ragu!

I nearly always deviate from the recipe, unless it's the first time I'm making it. Then I evaluate what changes I would make if I made it again. I like things moister and saucier than most recipes call for (for example, I hate dry brownies and cakes and will almost always add an extra egg or more liquid).

Plus, at high altitude, you always have to add more flour to cake recipes anyway so they'll turn out okay.

I grew up in a professional cooking family so it's sort of in my blood. None of us, guys and gals, ever use a recipe, or if we read one, we adjust it to what we know. It infuriates some of my friends who beg for a recipe and I just say, sorry. I tell them what to put in it and how to do it but when they ask how much of an ingredient to use, I say "enough to make it taste right"! To me it's instinctual I guess.

I rarely follow them, I like trial and error...of course those that have to eat it probably wish I'd stick closer to the receipe :teeth:

The only recipes I ever actually follow are the ones that I prepare when I'm doing a Pampered Chef show. Anything I make at home, pretty much make it up as I go.

When I cook I use a recipe. When I bake I use a formula. Big difference :)
