My youngest is now in college in Harrisonburg VA, she was feeling a bit under the weather so I called her to see how she was feeling. I was in my car at the grocery store and was going to jokingly ask her if she wanted anything .
Well she said "Hi Mommy" and I just lost it, I started to cry, I just realized that I really missed her. She kinda of brought me back to my senses when she asked me "are you out in public?" :o
She does not come home until October 21st, I'm seriously considering taking a weekend to visit her.

Yep, all the time.

Have two away at college. Oldest is 600 miles away in E Lansing, Mi. Althought after they gets jobs, they may be further away. DS might need to take an engineering job in Euorpe.

herc.

I just left my baby yesterday at Ohio State. It was really hard...it was hard Saturday AM when we left the house, once they leave for college it is never the same when they come back (not that that is a bad thing, but it IS different) and it was hard leaving him on campus and coming home yesterday. OSU is 7 hours away, but he will be home in 3 weeks for my DDs wedding. I just keep reminding myself that this is what I've raised him for...to be an independent, responsible man. I have no doubts that he will do well....I just can't help thinking back to the little guy with the buzzed hair, wondering where the years have gone. Yep, it is not easy being a parent!

Me, i'm missing mine too. She has been so busy this year she bearly has time to talk to me. rushes me off the phone. :guilty: She is coming home this weekend to celebrate her birthday with the family and i can't wait. :cool1:

I have a reverse problem. :(
The child isn't mine but she has attended our local college for the last three years and didn't return this year (grades). I attended al of her basketball games, celebrated her b-day with her and checked on her after her shoulder surgery last May. School started about 3 weeks ago and she didn't return. I am so worried about her. I feel like they let her slip through the cracks. I am upset with the coach for not getting more involved (the boy's coach stays real involved with his players) and her advisor who just didn't follow through this her. Yes, I realize she is old enpough to watch out for herself but more people should have been involved. I haven't called her yet because I spoke with one of her professors who has and she is very upset about not returning and was crying. I couldn't take that...I'd cry too!

So, yes, I miss my college student very much!

Our son, our only child, is a freshman in college - 300 miles from home. We miss him VERY much. Our house is so quiet - too quiet. He's adjusted nicely to the school and the people, but he's struggling with his classes a little. He was an honor student in high school and it's so much harder in college. A bit of a rude awakening I think. He's a Biology major, but that may change by the next semester. He thinks he's bitten off a little more than he can chew.

Anyway, we miss him and look forward to seeing him at the end of October. We are going to visit him for a couple of days (he has a short break). He won't be home until Thanksgiving - seems a long way off at the moment.

Well, I feel a little guilty, DS is gone but is only about 25min. away. I do miss him terribly and it is hard not to call and say "Hey how about I come pick you up for pasta on Sun.?" I have been out to run him things a couple of times because he didn't find out he had a room till 2 days before move in, so I am so glad I have been able to do that.

The quiet is the hardest part:(

I am 20 hours away from home at college...I'm a junior.
As a freshman I got a care package ALL the time, as a junior...only if i ask to send something do I get a care package.

Either she is used to be not being there or she really enjoys me not being there lol

HelenK, your post made me smile...........sounds exactly like something (and the tone of voice) that my daughter would say!

DD16 hasn't gone away yet, but I feel the same. She is SO busy this year (high school, takes a college class, ballet classes) that sometimes the only contact I have that day is a phone call!

Peace.

Missing two of them. One is only a little over an hour away and the other one is a little over three hours away. I have two parents weekends in October and I can't wait. You never get used to it. One is a sophmore and the other is a senior. Now he's applying to law schools so who knows where he'll end up.

I guess I should be used to it. Ds did a semester abroad in London last year and that really made me cry (even though he had a ball).

Have a wonderful time. My son said he was so happy he went. He was there his whole semester so he also went to Ireland, France, Belgium, Scotland and Holland. His highlight of the trip was spending St. Patricks Day in Ireland!

Finally got to a Penn State game and got to see him cheer. Spent some time before and after the game with him and a couple hugs, too.

I feel so much better!

Well I feel better knowing I'm not the only one. Her first break is not until 10/21, but I am considering going down the end of this month, if I'm still feeling this "blue".
When my son went to college he was only 45 minutes away and was in the March band so the first couple months I saw him practically every weekend. This not seeing her for over a month is really tough!
