And, will they ever put something else in that area (assuming you don't find Ariel's Grotto fulfilling)?

Silly to some people, but I really liked this attraction. I was hoping when they closed it, that it was only to update it......didn't happen. :confused3

Yep! I miss it! It was one of the classic attractions. I can so remember riding it as a kid and being so impressed.

I remembered real mermaids in the water and my family kept telling me that they were fake but a year or so ago someone here found photos that showed the real mermaids! I was thrilled to know my memory was right! :thumbsup2

Yes I miss it too....was there last week and there is something in it's place now.....it's a Pooh play area for kids now.

I miss it too, can't believe the tripe they put in there. I keep hoping Disney will come to their senses.

I miss it too. It and IASW were the two rides I have the most vivid memories of from my first trip when I was 8. When did they do away with it? I can't remember if it was there or not from other trips as a pre-teen and teen, but I noticed it being absent on my most recent trip in 2004.

It was closed in 1994. The lagoon sat there mostly unused until 2004 when they started to dismantle and fill it in.

It was an okay ride, but even on the slowest of days at MK the line was murder :headache:

Riding this as a child is one of my fondest memories of going to WDW. It seems like my mom and I stood in line for hours in the hot Florida sun to have our turn and I was just thrilled getting into that "submarine." My mom passed away when I was in my mid-20's but I'll always remember riding that with her!

I saw some web page recently of a similar submarine style ride being built in another Disney park - like a Stitch submarine ride or something? Now I can't remember! Was that for real?

In Disneyland they are revamping the submarine ride with a Nemo theme. It's been closed for quite awhile, so it will be interesting to see how much they changed it. They were working on it last summer when I was there, but I don't know when it will open.

i liked the 'views' but i hated the feeling of claustrophobia. went on it once as a child, when we went back 2 years later i said 'no way' my parents apparently were happy (as i found out later..) as they too couldn't handle the claustrophobia, my mum felt sick on it ! (but would have gone again for us if we wanted to. aww)

so nope. don't miss it.

I miss it too! Odd as it may sound it was as much of a highlight from my 1st trip to WDW when I was 12 as Space Mountain was. When I went in '92 for my senior class trip I was crushed that it wasn't there anymore!

I miss it! I think more for nostalgia then anything, I don't remember being overly thrilled to ride it after I reached maybe 10 or so. It's great to think about now, since it was so different and neat. Between that and Mr. Toad, I've grown a real disliking for Pooh. :crazy2:

I loved the ride and miss it. Last time I rode it there were sevral sailors on the ride. When they went into battle mode they all jumped up and bumped their heads. It was just priceless. They were all looking around like "Sorry folks, just our training showing."

No, definitely not! I never liked this ride. The line was always tortously long, the submarines were cramped and damp, and the effects were terrible. I do not miss it at all. On the other hand, I wish that Disney had put something better than the Pooh playspace in the vacant area. The space the ride occupied was so big, they had room for a headline attraction if they wanted to add one.

It was a ride that was great even when you didn't go on it.

You would walk past it a few times a day when in the MK.
And the waterfalls, music, and cool green sea monsters floating around in the lagoon....it just set a feeling that is now missing in Fantasy Land.

Snow White, Toad, Peter Pan, Small World ....as you walk down the strip now, it feels more like a State Fair (one sqaure bilding after another).

MK sucked the magic out of Fantasy Land and really changed the landscape and feel.... for many a boy, that now returns to Disney as an adult.

My best memory was just sitting in-front of the ride on the benchs and eating lunch :goodvibes That was the coolest spot in the MK.

(sort of like Swiss Family Tree House set the mood for Adventure Land even if you just walk past it)

(and same with Space Mountian, you don't have to ride it to love that big white building...it makes Tomorrow Land feel right)

(and as I think about it, Tower of Terror sets such a cool backdrop for Sunset Blvd.... even if you never want to ride it again)

Its not just about the ride.... its about the magic a great ride projects into an entire part of the park. :scratchin
