Anyone else making their family nuts with PLANNING?

Yeah..I am planning our 1st ever trip and its a year away..LOL... and yes..my husband says I am driving him bananas and if I say the word "Disney" one more time hes gonna lose it..lol.. so now I refer to it as "the trip" LOL

That's funny. I have resorted to doing the same thing. It seems to be easier that way.

Our trip includes my family, DM, and DS and her family. I am the butt of many family jokes thanks to my obsessive planning. I am even driving people at work nuts. I walked in with my Birnbaum guide to WDW and one of my so called friends said "Look out, here comes Lisa with that book again".

I talk so much about it that my BIL tells his friends not to mention the "D" word around me because I don't stop talking about it. He's also told people that if they are even thinking about going that they should talk to me because I could talk anyone into going because I get them so excited about going.

Thankfully DH is as much of a fan as I am. When he starts talking to people about it they get excited and usually I get a phone call to do a price check an help with dinner planning. :goodvibes It makes you feel good inside when you help someone.

All my friends keep telling me that I should become a travel agent for Disney.

yes.
they all joke about it .
I just figure with everything that disney offers to do planning is important.
I am traveling from Pa. so I want to make the best use of my time.
Any tips for me ...............

My DD14 is the one I can share planning with a bit more easily. But I knew I was done when I told her about meeting a Dis'er online, whose son is in one of her classes. Her reply: "That's just creepy, Mom."

:chat: Hey, if they can have MySpace, I don't see why we can't have the DIS!

Yes, my family is sick of me and my obsessive planning. I've changed our itinerary so many times, they don't have a clue what we're doing and when! I've finally finished my October plans and reservations, but December is still fair game! :lmao:

:wave2: Michelle,

Yeah what's up with that! I'm creepy because I'm talking to someone online!?!
Excuse me....if we didn't have computer time rules, she'd be IMing 24/7. Guess it's one of those "14 yr old girl rolling eyes at Mom things" we've been experiencing regularly these days. Mom's aren't allowed to have fun, duh....

BTW, My DD says she adores your DS.

My DH gave me grief last year when I had a spreadsheet with each of the parks and adrs listed for every day. I also had my touring plan for each park. He didn't laugh too much after we went, though, and saw how all that planning kept us out of the big long lines! :cool1:

I'm so glad I happened upon this thread! My DH has never been to Disney so he doesn't quite grasp why I'm so excited and stressed at the same time! I too get the eye rolls, the sighs, the "I don't CARE!!!" everytime I bring it up. I've gone back and forth so many times between resort choices, to do the dining plan or not, where to eat, how long to stay, etc. Plus I have a tiny map fascination and my parents just brought me all the info from their recent trip. He just doesn't understand that the stress of planning takes away the stress of the vacation. Until December I'll get :sad2: but once we get there it'll be :cool1: and
did i mention how glad i was to find disboards?

I get the :sad2: from my DH as well :rotfl2:. And like your DH, mine has not been to Disney either except for Epcot (business trip for him and 1 day at that).

It took me awhile to get him to sit with me and plan out what parks to do on what days as well as where to eat. He always brushed me off. I finally got him one night after we got our DS4 into bed at 8. We were up planning our whole week from 8:30 till almost midnight! I made our ADRs the next morning. I don't think he'll understand it all until after we are down there.

WOW ! I didnt think there were so many like me :) I gotta say, it hurts my feelings when DM says she is not interested or even that I'm RUINING the trip. We've never been to Disney (besides the one in Paris which shouldnt even be allowed to call itself Disney) but we've been to SeaWorld and Universal Studios. She thinks we're gonna have the same type of crowd we had in SeaWorld in February!

All I do lately is read the UG, TGM and of course the DIS. So glad I did, too, because otherwise we would have done all of the first-timer mistakes. The only thing is, now, on top of not being interested, she can also not understand what I'm saying.

"OK so we take the bus from ASMO to AK that morning and go straight to KS then backtrack to EE and then our ADR is this way. It's 2 TS so after that we need to use our CS but all the CS at AK suck so we'll take the bus to ASMU then take another bus to DTD and use our CS at WPE."

:rotfl2:

My hubby won't even give his input on restaurants...and he loves to eat!! I decided to go no dining plan....we're more counter service and spontaneous people anyway. i can't wait to see his face when he finally realizes what disney is all about. :worship: <---------that'll be him at the statue of walt and mickey.

Let them roll their eyes ALL THEY WANT, they will be thanking you when the time comes!

I planned a big family trip in 2004, 12 of us went and I planned my heart out to ALOT of eye rolling, but everyone thanked me almost every day as we avoided lines and booked restaurants and saw things most people didn't even know exsisted at WDW. I even got a present for all my efforts...not necessary, but greatly appreciated!

I am going in a little over two weeks and no one else, with the exception of my ds who "just feels bad for me"..yes, those are his words, will watch the planning video with me anymore. My dd-12 loves Disney but she's not into it like my dm (karensi) or me :confused3 I tell her she can get married at Disney, have Minnie and Mickey there but she looks at me like I have two heads
I have my laminated cards on keychains with all my touring info. from TGM including my ADR confirmation numbers. I packed last weekend for our October 21st trip and just ready to go :moped:
My dh does make fun of me, and always does when we are planning a trip, bu he ALWAYS does tell me how great it is that I planned and does tell his friends about my planning and how great it is when they are planning a trip :cheer2:
Anyway, I can talk about it all day with my dm (karensi) and my son when he is feeling sorry for me :lovestruc but that's about it. My dd and dh just don't understand how much more I can possibly learn being on this site and TGM every evening. :surfweb:

I am driving DH crazy with my planning. This is our first trip together, and I think he already can't wait to come back!

Henry Lutz I would definately say you need to read this board and check out http://wdwig.com/ the allears website.

First you need to start with a spreadsheet and pick a park for each day, then think about your restaurants - check out the reviews on this board for some really good ones. Try to pick out a restaurant that is at each of the parks you've picked. with the DDP you'll need to do some preplanning to ensure you use all of your points. Once you've picked everthing call 800-828-0228 and do your ADRs. Then watch you planning video, purchase a Birnbaum book to read up on each ride and download a countdown clock to watch the days tick away. The biggest thing to do is keep reading this board, there are live reports and the picture a day thread is a great boost.

In a weak moment I actually told my wife about this board and how everyone is relieved to find there are others like us. Good Planners, that is.

She actually got a kick out of it. Maybe a good sign for the future.

I love this thred- its so me! This morning my DH instructed me not to tell him another word about our plans for the Jan trip (dining, Pirates party etc) until the drive down. Apparently I am driving him nuts with my changes :confused3

However, he does appreciate my planning once we get there. His whole input into this entire trip has been "I think we should eat a the french steak place again- oh and that ribs & chicken place (he loves Cosmic Rays)"

He also thinks we are all nuts planning so far in advance- he just doesn't understand the joy it brings *sigh* Thank god I have three boys as Disney obsessed as I am :cool1:

Our obsession has become a family thing. Myself and hubby and our three kids are traveling w/my parents to Disney World! Yesterday I took my son to barnes and noble to play with the thomas trains so I could read some disney travel guides I haven't purchased!!!! I copy and send disney restaurant menus to my parents to get their opinions before making my ADR's! My 8 year old had a yard sale of toys with her friend to save up $$ for disney dollars!!!! We play Disney Magical Racing on playstation to get pumped up! My kids love the old walt disney world explorer for the computer from back in the 90's! We are bunch of disney geeks!!! I'm a school bus driver and I have Mickey Mouse wall decorations in my bus!!!!!!

:worship: All hail Disney World!

Well, we start at 7 people, so planning is very important. My last few trips- 04 had 15 people, April 06 was my sons Cub Scout pack, and my upcoming October trip has 11 people, you can't just show up with a group like that and expect things to go smoothly. Not to sugar coat it, because I am compulsive about planning my vacations. I figure all the work I do up front is more time for me to enjoy my trip when I am there. But we go every other year, and I like to try things we haven't done before ect, so that takes some planning, and we consider our meals part of our vacation experience, so lots of ADR's to make. It is funny though because my family - DH, DD-DM-DD- and DS just kind of expect me to plan, but they do get a little tired of my talking about it, and they HATE to see me dig out the "binder"! But I pull together all the details and they just have to show up! This year I got the kids their own Passporters when the 05 ones went on sale for a $1, I'm making the adults special t-shirts for MNSSHP, we are celebrating my anniversary at Yachtsman Stkhs, and doing the Safari Celebration! I also try to do group activities, like I pulled together a treasure hunt for us all to do. They love all teh little surprises. It is good to know I'm not alone in this though....
