for me, I enjoyed my stay at the CR...the room decor was not so out of line..
huge, huge amount of space,,,more so for any other deluxe room

now we see a revamp of rooms, and along wil follow the prices

starting already, you will pay more for a MK view in the tower rooms..
and I suspect, the rates will continue to climb and climb

I am happy that I got a tower room, concierge level on MK side for the rate I did because I know in 2006 I will not be able to afford it.

and btw, my room was gorgeous. decor and all..
very very clean to boot

I actually remember staying at the CR WHILE the rooms were being redone to their Jetson's style. We had reserved Tower Club and checked in late and tower club was not available. We were given the older room style on another floor and the next day we moved up to tower club, which had been "updated" and were THRILLED to have the cool, new Jetson's room decor! We loved it back then. (don't remember how many years ago!)

Anyway, we have stayed there MANY times over the years and that Jetson's style has worn thin for me. I am glad they are redoing the rooms - it needed to be done.

We will be staying there Thanksgiving weekend and I am excited to see the newest room style first hand. It doesn't seem very "fun" but more Asian influenced. It reminded me- when I first saw the pics - of the hotel room in the movie "Lost in Translation". I don't know how Disney it will feel - more like a business hotel probably. We'll see. I guess I have mixed feelings about the style they chose to redo the rooms in. I still miss those character's voices in the elevators announcing the floors. ;)

The CR has always been my kids' FAVORITE Disney resort. It will be interesting to me to see how they like the new modern decor.

We loved the Jetsons look. We found it fun and campy. I'm not too sure of the new as Lives4Disney aptly puts it "Lost in Translation " look. But we still love CR its one of our favorite resorts.

nope, nope, nope!!! Way to "busy" for me. Sort of looked like the scene from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with the oompa-loompas dancing in the squirrel scene. I felt like it was a psychedelic time warp!!! And, so does the CR room. Way too many swirls, angles, and geometric patterns all colliding together. :earseek: Not restful at all. And who picked those hideous colors? I'm no designer, but somebody could have paid me a lot less money to decorate a room with far better taste than that! I liked the original Contemporary room. At the time, it was contemporary. The newest design is also contemporary--it's a clean look, uncluttered. The design won't go out of style too quickly, either. JMHO!

I didn't like the old rooms either. They just seemed too busy and off the wall to me. The North Garden Wing was in pretty poor shape in my opinion. I had a great rate through Shades of Green but I would have been horrified if I were paying rack rate for a room that was so worn down and shabby as ours was. :earseek: I'm really looking forward to seeing how the renovation comes out. Judging from our last visit, the CR was in dire need of rehab!

DH's reaction to the Jetson's decor was "Can you imagine waking up in this room with a horrible hangover?" We have always loved staying at the Contemporary regardless of the colors (although I really did like the gold colors in the 70's), and I'm sure we'll love the new rooms, too.

I liked the decor - but then again, my family room has lemon yellow walls with a bright chartreuse 50's sectional and a red chair. BUT, the room was not well planned (that long closet has so much wasted space) and was quite worn. The new look is cool, but more like a business hotel...which is funny because it's the one place that's an easy walk to the MK!

wow, those rooms really look different now...everybody already says that the CR is not very "disney-ish", and it will be even less so now...

Oh, I don't think so. After all, the Contemporary was Walt's original idea. He never lived to see it finished. Personally, I like the rooms, they're quiet, peaceful. After all the noise of the parks, and the activity in the lobby, you'd need a place to rest. How un-Disney can you be when your view overlooks the Magic Kingdom?

Anyone have a pic of the ORIGINAL rooms? I've only seen the Jetson's and the new design. BTW when was the Jetson's renovation done? I always thought it was the original decor?

I couldn't find a photo of the decor from the 1970's (which was mostly gold tones), but I did find this photo of a MK Tower room in 1982. (This is my first try at posting a photo -- I hope it works, and apologize if it doesn't.)

I was there right when they were in the works of putting in the Jetson's decor. I cannot remember if I had my daughter at that time or not, but I think not - so I THINK it was in 1995. Maybe not?? I remember having to move up to the tower club from tower and tower club was just done in the Jetson's style. We thought it was just SO COOL at that time!! I don't think I moved when pregnant or with a baby......I have been there too many times and can't keep it all straight!! :earboy2:

And I was there in the early 70's with the original decor. If you thought the Jetsons was ugly - oh boy!! Our room had royal blue shag carpeting. That is ALL I remember!! That just sticks in my mind! I must have been on the floor playing! In the early 90s, the rooms were muted gold, black, beige. Much more tasteful and simple than anything that followed.
