Anyone else leaving from New England at the end of the week and watching the weather? Are you planning to leave early or wait it out?? :umbrella:

now, now,... you as a newenglander(as am I) should know that the weather will always change, and don't trust the weatherman, he is almost always wrong! :wizard:

I didn't think anything of it until I looked up NWS.com and we have a special weather statement for the end of the week, I know its ONLY Monday but I'm starting to freak a bit! :confused3

If you're on the NWS site, read the discussions. (there's a link on the side for Discussion) - much of it will be in greek to non-mets, but you can get the gist of how these guys are REALLY feeling by reading these - they are meant to share with other NWS sites and the on-air mets, to go over the thought process for why things are put out, like special weather statements, etc. It'll give you a really good feel for how confident they feel in the whole scenario.

Right now they're saying they're 50% confident...but there's still many days to come. Crossing my fingers for you!

Yes! I want to get away from the snow!! My flight leaves thursday from Boston. I hope it is just rain. Here's hoping we all get to Orlando this week!

We are supposed to leave from Cape Cod early Friday morning. (we're driving) I am so sick of snow. :sad2: Hope I don't have to drive down in it. Hubby has to work Thursday so there is no leaving early for us. *fingers crossed*

Keep an eye on it, they put up a winter storm watch starting at midnight Weds/Thurs, going to 9pm Thurs at this time, and they expect very high winds through Saturday. Winter storm watch means they expect at least 6 inches, and they are saying in the discussions that they expect 6-12, even as far down as the Cape...and that the latest computer guidance is hinting at worse, but they aren't making that call yet as it's still too far out. Oh, and they say that NW of the I-95 belt will be the one under the gun...(that's because I still have 6 ft. drifts on either side of my driveway that I have to throw the snow over...*grumble*)

Just curious. If there is bad weather predicted for the day you are scheduled to depart will the airlines put you on an earlier flight, i.e., the day before or do you have to take a later flight when the snow is over? If not then would it be possible to add a day on at the end taking a later flight out or would they still assess the change fee? I am leaving at the end of February and it seems like there is always some bad weather before we leave and I would hate to cut my trip any shorter. Good luck to everyone trying to get out this weekend. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Great questions, I'd like to hear responses as well.
We are scheduled to leave Fri at 6:30pm, I'm hoping the airport has reopened and a plane is available to leave otherwise we'll be leaving over the weekend. I've had a hard time getting into packing and just had a feeling something would happen. I'm hoping the weathermen are wrong on this one.

Do what we did... leave New England for good!

As a degreed meteorologist, I'm usually the sick one saying "SNOW, awesome!!", but I totally agree with you, I could handle a blown forecast on this one, I'm so tired of the winter mess in the house already - snow/sand/salt dragged in *sigh*. :cold:

Perhaps call the airlines to find out? The discussions are pointing out that this storm has actually been showing on the computer models/guidance since 2/4...which is very unusual, and hints at a more accurate forecast. :sad2:

On a good note, it looks like (unless this one model is right and the low just stalls out and prolongs the storm) it should move out Thursday night, with just winds to deal with on Friday, so you may have the delayed passengers from the day before to have to figure out, but otherwise it should be open.

That's certainly an option KIKIPUG! I actually LOVE the snow and normally am happy when we get a snow storm, I guess I should expect it living in New England! Hope everyone is able to get where they want!

If it only snowed in the winter, I could deal with it ... it was the 9 months of snow that I couldn't take... it snowed in Oct:cold: , Nov:cold: , Dec:cold: , Jan:cold: , Feb:cold: , Mar:cold: , Apr :cold: AND May:cold: :cold: the year before we left...

its a beautiful 76 here right now!!!:sunny:

We are scheduled to leave Friday 7am from Albany airport----getting a little nervous.

Kikipug---that's our goal for next year---move to Florida! :cool1:

My brother is flying out of Hartford at 7AM tomorrow :scared1: to visit us here in FL... I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Erin- I said I'd NEVER move to FL... now I LOVE it here!!! It's 76 and sunny today, with a 'cold front' moving in tomorrow... only in the 60's.

Good luck to all of you trying to leave tomorrow morning, I gave in and changed my flight, instead of leaving Friday I am leaving tonight at 8pm! I was able to make a one time change to my itinerary due to the weather, the weather reports are still iffy here, we could either get hit hard or get rain, I guess they'll know when we do! Hope you all have a wonderful trip! :umbrella:

have a great vacation

A friend & I are leaving Fri afternoon to her condo in Maine - DH & DS are hoping we still get to go - they want the wknd to themselves!

It can work both ways. Just experienced this during the "blizzard" two weeks ago. We were scheduled to fly out Sunday, 1/23 from BDL on Song (7:00 AM). We were able to rebook for Saturday, 1/22 on Delta through ATL (3:35 PM). Unfortunately, we never made it. Boarded and pushed back, but then the weather deteriorated (primarily the visibility - less than 1/4 mile) and they couldn't take off int that. Plus, we were flying an MD-88 and they are supposedly not good (skidding wise) is snow. We then were rebooked on a Sunday 1/23 Song flight (6:00 PM) that eventually was cancelled and finally got out on Monday 1/24, Delta through CVG.

So, to answer your question the airline, at least Delta will attempt to get you there any way they can either before or after your original departure date. No change fee, as long as they have posted their weather alert on the web.

We were able to add two days on our trip and change our return trip without a change fee......after I spoke with a supervisor and we had a polite discussion on the ripple affect and the "original cause" of the change!

Hope that helps! :cold:
