Anyone else have young adult kids who don't YET get the WDW infatuation?

Notice how I said "yet" in the title?

My husband and I took our kids to WDW about 6 or 7 times when they were between the ages of 3/4 and 16/17. They were always great trips. I have to admit, however, that by the time they were teens, it probably wasn't their #1 vacation pick. When I planned the last trip, I don't think any of us were really aware of that. It sort of came out while we were there. No big deal. They were always wonderful vacations.

So now, fast forward to them both being in their early 20's. Last February, for our 25th wedding anniversary, my husband and I took our first adults only WDW trip and stayed (for the first time) at a deluxe resort - the BWI. It. was. fabulous. So fabulous, in fact, that we are doing the exact same trip this February (to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary!)

I have to admit - our kids think we're a little kooky. Obviously, they are happy that we're going on vacation and think it's cute that we choose WDW as our location. They just don't understand "why" we would go 2 years in a row to Disney, and they've basically said they don't really have a desire to go back to WDW any time soon. We talked about it as a family vacation for later this year, but they're not really interested.

Please don't get me wrong - my kids are extremely appreciative of ANY vacation we might decide to take them on. The old saying of "If we're buying, they're flying" is certainly true. When we're going on a family vacation, I like to get input from everyone. I'm very thankful that for right now, we can afford to take family vacations and I want them to be fun. Besides, I actually enjoyed being at WDW alone as much as I ever enjoyed those days with 2 kids! Let's face it - they're 2 different types of vacations.

I also have no doubt that some day, assuming they have families of their own, they'll both want to be heading back down to WDW again - but now with Grandma & Grandpa (that would us!)

So, anyone else have kids who just aren't as interested as you are?

Wow, I thought my wife may have posted this. We just got back from WDW for our 25th Anniversary, first time without the kids after having made multiple trips with them in the past. When we told our 21 year old son we were going to Disney his only response was "WHY".

DD27 loves Disney and is disappointed any time we visit a Disney destination without at least inviting her to go along. DS23 enjoys WDW and DCL, but isn't infatuated with it.

DW figures a visit to WDW within 3 years of the last visit is unnecessary and a total waste of money. We'll be at SSR a few days before our cruise in March, but she has absolutely no interest in leaving the resort.

Hahaha - that's not you typing in the other room, is it?

Just change the "21" to "23 year old son" in your post and I have gotten the exact same response.

Same experience but I'm the adult child who didn't get it :)

In my 20s, before I married and had children of my own, I totally didn't see the appeal of going to Disney as "grown ups without little kids". But now that I have 3 kids of my own, I not only enjoy takeing my kids but I want to go without them someday too :)

So just be patient and your kids will get it someday too!
