Anyone else have problems with the board?

Once again it's taking forever for a reply to a thread to go through..

Are there an abnormally large number of people "on" right now - or is this the same problem that has been happening off and on since the last upgrade?

For some reason I always think it's "my" computer..

Same here. What's ironic is when the pages time out and you get a page that says the server is "Litespeed Technologies."

I compare the opening of specific pages on the DIS to the same or comparable page on other, very highly visited vBulletin forums, and the DIS exhibits noticeably more latency.

These boards have been slow most of the ten + years I have been here, but yes, the past several months have really been a test of patience. I usually will just open several DIS windows at a time, letting them load in their own time, while working on other things I have to do online, usually work. When they are open then I deal with them.

If making a reply, I learned long ago to make a copy of it before you submit it, or do it first, in Word or similar, and then do a copy and paste. The 503 error comes up very often and it is easy to lose a reply, a pain if it is a long one, or one that required some research, links, etc. If you want to play on the DIS, you have to get use to sloooow.

Wow, I do those things too. I didn't know other people do them also. I learned way back when I had Win 95 and AOL that the S-L-O-W combo of that old operating sytem that would freeze & the unstable internet from AOL meant many a reply might have gotten lost if I hadn't done a Right mouse click & Copy, in case I needed to repaste my reply if the web page froze and lost my reply. I still do it automatically before hitting reply, no matter what forums I am on and even for sending emails.


I wonder how much of the slow down of the boards is due to having a faster Search engine now. Did they sacrifice everyone's ability to read & post just to get a faster Search engine? I post waaaay more that I do Searches. It's great that we even have a working Search feature now, but I don't it that fast if it means surfing and posting on the boards is so slow.

Sometimes when I try to open the DIS in my favorites section it will never load no matter how long I wait. But if I google "the dis" and click on it that way it opens right up. Why would that be?

Check the address of the one in your Favorites. It may need updating. The URL could be old and off slighly and no longer working (because of of a DIS upgrade.) Try replacing it with the one you Google and does work.

The slowness does seem to come and go without rhyme nor reason. Yesterday I waited to load a page, stopped the loading, tried again and the same thing happened (nothing). I was trying to reply to a post. I took a shower and when I came back, the page still hadn't loaded. I just wanted to see how long it would take. I exited the site, came back in, and it loaded right away. Usually I just move on to a different website, check email or whatever. I get too impatient.
