Hey everyone! I'm hoping I'm just being paranoid about my 3 month old, because the doctor doesn't seem to think there is anything to worry about. He is not quite 3 months old, is 19 pounds and about 22 or 23 inches. He seems to be gaining weight at about a pound a week lately. He is exclusively breastfed, sleeps 8 hours through the night and gets 6 feedings during the day. He seems otherwise healthy and is smiling and laughing, can hold his head up real good. He does have obstructive sleep apnea due to his uvula being too long and will have surgery for that soon. Did anyone else have giant infants that can help me not be worried there is some other issue going on???

Thanks!

He sounds perfectly healthy to me :) That's some super milk you have there! ;)
I'm totally jealous about the sleep thing, though. My 9 month old still wakes 3-4 times each night to nurse. Ugh.

My son is not an infant anymore but for a two year old, he is very tall. He is off the growth charts for his age group and is as tall as the average four year old. I recently bought him a new pair of sneakers...wait for it....in a 10   He is 41 inches tall and is about to eat us out of house and home :rotfl: He has grown so much this year that his doctor tested him for everything he could think of just to make sure nothing was wrong with him. Luckily, everything came back fine.

I am 5'10, my DH is 6'1 and the grand dads are both over 6'. Just the grandmothers are short. I guess its in his genes. But people can be so rude sometimes and are always commenting on how "huge" and "gigantic" he is. It hurts my feelings but I can't change people's idiotic thinking and stupid comments.

I will admit I am jealous that your child is sleeping through the night....my son still wakes up some nights and it drives me nuts! I am like sleep already!! And then he is awake by 0630

Sounds like your child is a very healthy eater!;)

Are you or DH tall? DS was 20 lbs by 4 months & BIG, always off the charts. Our doc always said as long as they roughly follow a growth curve path, they're doing ok.

He's 6 now & still top of the growth charts for his age but more steady growth now. Plus we're both tall so it's expected. You can definitely tell when he's going through a growth spurt - he can put away a disturbing amount of pizza!! :lmao:

Your baby is fine. Keep in mind that babies only eat what they really need. So it's not like he is sneaking off with a bag of doritos!;) Our kids were all big like that. There's nothing to worry about. Enjoy your little munchkin! The time goes by so fast.:cutie:

Sounds like your little guy is a healthy and happy!

I have a 12 yr old that was the same way. He started growing a pound a week while he was still inside me and I wound up giving birth via C-section 3 1/2 weeks early. He came out weighing, are you ready for this....11 lbs. And it didn't stop there. He ate like your little guy when he was an infant and still does! Now he's 5'9", 146 lbs. (he just turned 12 in Aug, btw) According to the doctors predictions, he should be close to 6' 6" by the time his growing stops. I have to admit, I was concerned as well about how big he was, but he's turned out to be a fine young man, just a foot and a half taller than his classmates! :rotfl:

Don't worry...he's just fine. Just be prepared for the grocery bills as he gets older! :goodvibes

I am with the posters above. Especially if you and your husband are large. I have DD a 4 ft. 6 in. 8 year old who is 90 lbs. She is not fat but a tall muscular girl. My DS is 5 and almost 3 ft. 7 in. and 67 lbs. Grandparents are tall as are most of the family. Genes are funny things.

How tall were you and DH when you were little? :)

My DD was 20 lbs. at her 4 month check-up. She was 9lbs. 8 oz. at birth, and that was over a week early! She turned out fine. Now she's 14yo, 5'5" & weighs about 115 lbs.

I remember when she was an infant...boy, could she pack away those Gerber Chicken sticks...she loved them!!:lmao:

Thanks everyone! I wasn't concerned about how big he was, so much as he doesn't seem to be growing as much lengthwise as he is in weight. Paranoid about thyroid issues or something... He's just a cute squishy ball! ;) My older DS was always as the top of the charts, but that was both in weight and height. At his 2 year old appt he was 100th in height, 97th in weight, but he also didn't weight 20 pounds until about 5 or 6 months! DH is 6'4" and a big guy. Anyway, I feel better, so thank you! My DH says we are growing our high school's 2025 defensive line....

My DS13 was a very large baby as well. He was 2 weeks early and weighed 9lbs4oz. By 3 months he was 18lbs and looked like the michelin man. For the first two years, he was off the charts in the Drs office. He has since leveled out and is about 5'4" and about 115 lbs (translates to about 50th-60th percentile on those same charts). DS10 weighed 8lbs 4oz at birth and now weighs more than his brother (but a few inches shorter). Go figure.

I was told w/ my youngest DD that I had a 2 vessel cord and she would be very small. They advised me to get premie clothes. I was delivered 3 weeks early due to complications. Surprise- My little baby weighed 10 lbs, 2oz! She was 22 inches long. She is now 7 and is still the tallest girl in class. She is healthy, not at all heavy. She wears a size 8 already. My DD11 wears a 12 and they are only 4lbs different today. If he is healthy, I wouldn't worry at all. The Dr. will tell you when to worry! Enjoy!princess:

My DS was the same. He was always at the 90th percentile for weight - and about 70th for height. I was worried - partly cause I was chubby and it's not fun.
He's now 4, and he's 75th for height and about 50th for weight.
He was breastfed too, if that matters.
FWIW, I've found that the weight of babies doesn't often mean much as they get older. It seems to be more of a way to indicate whether or not they are getting enough nutrition/calories, etc.

Wow, my baby is 14 mos. and just hit 17 pounds
You must have some good milk there:thumbsup2
Im sure everything is fine with your baby. They all grow at different paces. I was constantly worrying that mine was too small. She is at the other end of the growth charts. Dr. says everything is fine- go with what the Dr. says, they see kids everyday

Oh yeah! Your baby is FINE! I have a big girl.. She is 3 and a half, and is the size of a first grader.. She is about 44inches, and 55 pounds. Totally off the charts. She isnt chubby really.. but very solid.

I am so there with you! My DS is 2 (3 on Feb. 21). He is sooo tall. I haven't measured him lately but he is at least as tall as yours. He still needs to eat in his high chair for messy meals and his feet just dangle way down below the foot rest..LOL. People think he is much older and are giving me dirty looks sometimes when he behaves like a 2 year old!! I feel like we need a sign on him "hello, I am only 2...give my Mom a break" :rolleyes1

His growing shows no signs of slowing down and even the Pediatrician shakes his head...as if my son is some medical rarity...kind of scary, really! Anyway, I thought it might help to know your not alone.:yay:

Hi. I have a daughter that was 18 lbs. 8 ounces at 3 1/2 months. She was "off the charts" on both height and weight since this point. She just turned 10 in April and now is 5'6" and around 140 pounds. She is expected to be (by their calculator) around 6 foot tall. It sounds like your little guy may be simply a bigger kid. I worried about my daughter constantly, but, once she started school, my mind was put at ease. There is SUCH a variation of size with children. There can be a foot and half between 10 year olds and it still be "normal". She is still off the charts (obviously), but, is perfectly healthy, happy, and, athletic. The high school basketball coach keeps telling me to get her practicing. LOL.

As long as he is eating well and there is no huge jump (from 50 - 90) percentile, children are considered healthy. They simply want them to continue on the same curve that they began when they are this small.

Congratulations, and, my daughter weighed 32 pounds at a year (that is what my 3 year old weighs right now!), so, you may need to invest in a convertible carseat instead of an infant-only one soon. Infant only usually only goes up to 20 pounds. Also, look at weight limits on strollers and stuff. This was a hugely annoying thing, but, their safety is all that really matters.

God bless.

I think he is fine. I wouldn't worry too much, especially if your pediatrician is fine with it.

I had a big infant too. My DD was 10lbs 5oz at birth and was off the charts for the first year. She has gradually evened out over the years.

I agree with everyone. Sounds like a healthy baby. My son has been big from day one. He was 2 1/2 when we took him to WDW in September and was able to ride Splash Mountain, Test Track (4 times) and Dinosaur. He will turn 3 in January and is 43 inches and 55 pounds. I call him my retirement plan. :rotfl2:

He's very healthy.

My 3 year old is over 40 inches and weights 30 something lbs. She's 90% for her height and 50% for her weight.

My 18 month old is 37 1/2 inches (almost as tall as his sister) and weights 28 lbs. He's 90% for height (has always been) and 75% for weight.

She was 7 lbs 15 ozs at birth
He was 9 lbs 13 ozs at birth and they induced me a week early because he was so big.
