How do I tape something if I'm watching something else without tuning in to that channel?

I had it all set up to tape Suze Orman last Saturday and we were watching a movie on that T.V. and it asked me if I wanted to tune in to the channel Suze was on...well no we were watching a movie. It didn't tape.
I can't believe you have to watch what's taping, what sense does that make. It's great for when your not home.

How do you like it? Do you think it's worth $9.95/mo
I have it on 2 separate TV's, I wonder if it's going to be a double charge? The guy hooking it up didn't know the answer to that.

We're getting the Comcast DVR this week. I do think that you have to be watching the channel you're recording. There is another Motorola DVR that allows you to watch one channel while recording another, but it's not the model Comcast uses. The reason we're getting it is to be able to pause, rewind, etc. live TV.

We're only getting one box for 9.95, although we already have 2 digital cable boxes. I'm thinking that if you have 2 there may be a charge for 2. I'd give Comcast a call if you don't want to pay for 2.

Karen, they actually updated both my boxes to accomodate the DVR, so you'll probably be getting a new box and remote.

I got it this summer and love it. The box we have right now does not allow you to watch and record a different channel at the same time. So if its the only time the show is on, I'll record it and go watch tv in the other room. If its something that will repeat, I'll tape the second one if its more convenient for me.

And we paid $10 for the extra receiver (actually, the regular receiver is $5 and the DVR adds on another $5). So if you got two DVR receivers, you'll be paying $10 for each one. Honestly, you only need one, unless you do a LOT of tv watching! :)

Definitely worth the $10 extra a month!

It's the same with our Tivo. You can't watch one thing and record another at the same time.

To be able to record something and watch something else, you need to splice the cable line. There should be two cable inputs on the box, and both need to be hooked up to be able to watch something and record something at the same time. You can also record two shows at once if not home. We have Tivo, and we can record and watch something else at the same time, we just had to have the lines spliced. You can buy a splitter at Radio Shack for pretty inexpensive.

Oh Good! I was getting nervous reading all of these posts!
We had TiVo and could record 2 things at the same time or watch one and record the other. We moved and can't get dish reception through all of our trees! We are still anxiously waiting for Comcast to have DVR available in our area!

We have Comcast Digital Cable DVR, and can watch whatever while we record another channel... I wonder why the difference?

Doesn't a pop up box come on and ask you to tune into the channel? Do you have a splitter?

I only get that pop-up box when I'm trying to tape two shows at one time, otherwise the show just tapes from the other tuner.

We just got it this week and so far love it. We're not able to watch one show and tape another at the same time, that function is supposedly coming in the near future.
