Anyone else have a child over 1 not walking yet??

My oldest didn't walk until she was 15 months. I think she was ready earlier but didn't want to.. When she was around 11 months she was walking on the couch holding onto the top of it and fell. She decided she didn't like it and until she was 15 months, she would lift her legs when we tried. She did love to crab walk with her feet straight and hands on the floor. It was so cute.

Other 2..
middle daughter starting walking at around 9/10 months and was running everywhere within days. There was a permanent bump on her head for a year from the amount of times she fell. She is still running.. can't slow that one day.. is a hurry to get nowhere and not careful of who or what gets in her way

The baby started walking a few days after her 1st birthday.

I think with the first you are more careful and carry them more but by the time younger ones come you put them down more often.

As everyone else has said, I wouldn't worry about it at this point. DD (now 17 months) was between 13 -14 months old when she started to walk. It seems like we always hear about babies who start walking at 9 -10 months, but I was told by an acquaintance who is a preschool teacher that the average age to start walking is actually 14 months!

My son did not walk until 15 months either. I think his big (cute) melon of a head was too heavy to carry. Funny thing, like others here have said, he could speak in perfect sentences and had amazing small motor control.

Our first son walked at 12 months, our daughter at 17 months and our last son at 14-15 months. Every child is different. Try not to worry.:D

DS is my second child. His older sis took her first step at 12 months and then did not walk again for another month. I really kind of thought that he would walk earlier since he has an older sibling to model.
He's so stubborn pirate: I hate to think about the potty training days ahead!!!

I found that for our first DD when she finally realized she was faster walking than she was crawling she stood up and hasn't sat down since. DD#2 has the same bump on her forehead as Brat does - we were just talking about that over lunch. It is on her right side of her forehead!

My cousin was stubborn when it came to walking. My aunt slipped clothes pins in her hands so that she would think she was holding mommy's fingers. It worked for her and a friends baby.

Don't sweat it, once they start walking it's hard to keep up.

My son was just over 16 mos. when he finally decided to start walking. He doesn't do much of anything until he's good and ready! He was always later at "firsts" than the "average" children they talk about in books, but he's the type of child that won't do anything until he's sure he'll do it right.

It will happen soon enough... and then you'll want him to slow down! ;)

My second DS didn't walk until we took him to WDW at 14 months. I swear, he hadn't shown any signs of being ready to take his steps at home, but within a couple of hours of checking into the ASMovies, he walked across the room. I guess he was waiting to see Mickey to take those steps.

Is he making other milestones?

Is he trying to talk and moving in normal ways other than the not walking?

Karissa ( my youngest) wouldnt walk either but she also wasnt talking very well, my doctor just poo pooed us and said " oh she'll catch up" well I didnt believe him and after posting here several people encouraged me to take her to a pediatric ENT the ENT said "Oh no problem, she needs ear tubes! He ears are blocked so she cant balance and she cant hear very well"

She described it as hearing under water. her hearing test came out that dd only had about 35% hearing.

Once the tubes were installed she was a whole new child :) the next day she got up and started walking 2 days after that she was trying to run :)

Im not saying that the problem with your ds but I wanted to tell you what happened with us.
I hope you can get some answers :)

I've heard 2nd siblings sometimes take longer to do things like talking and walking because their older sibling does things for them. My ds was slower than his older sister, so I know in my case, that's true.

As far as potty training, my ds was a breeze to potty train compared to my dd. He's a little on the stubborn side too (I've heard he gets that trait from me:p ).
