Anyone else hate the job search?

This seems like a good place to vent. :thumbsup2

So I finished my first degree in December and took my FINAL final a week ago, getting that 2nd degree in August. I have been sending resumes out for TWO months and only a couple callbacks for jobs that aren't worth it (really bad reviews when doing research, or wanting to pay barely more than minumum wage) I have everyone I know paying attention to see if there are any jobs and nada.

It's so frustrating. And don't even get me started on having to sort through all the scams when searching job sites!

The stress is starting to get to me!

You don't say what your degree is in, but it sounds like you need to do some in person networking, versus the Internet. Decide what you really want to do, find some companies in the area, and start calling and hooking up with people. Join some clubs. They've got networking clubs in most cities. Join a church, and get involved.

Bear in mind that sometimes you have to accept lower than you planned in order to move up through a company.

I cold-called a bunch of places before moving from KS to Chicago, and had interviews set up the week I arrived. Was hired in less than a week (okay, it was hotel management and they're desperate, but still, I was pleased).

As you'll see in your letters: Best of luck in your future professional endeavors. pixiedust:

I've been trying the networking thing. I work in radio right now so I have half the salespeople on the lookout since they deal with just about every company in the area. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of options around here. . . job market isn't so great, so no one's hiring it seems. I really need to move away to get a good job, but paying for school has drained me so I want to work for awhile and save a little before I jump into a big move and try and figure out finances later. It just tough to save money and think about starting to pay back those old student loans when people don't want to pay more than $6 or $7 an hour.

Thanks for wishing me luck - I think I need it right now! LOL

I feel your pain. I've been searching for a teaching position. You would think positions for teachers wouldn't be that hard to find. I even turned down a non-teaching position because I felt really confident about an interview I had for a teaching position. I won't make that mistake again- I found out today I didn't get the teaching job.

Hang in there. Something wonderful has to come along. That's what I keep telling myself.

I've been searching recently as well. I'm stuck in a little spot between under and over quailified. The jobs I want, I'm missing a little experience here or there. The jobs I have everything I need, I'm actually over qualified for and they dont want to pay much or wont even consider me because of my experience. It sucks.

I had an interview for a part time work from home job on Saturday. It would give me one of the skills I'm missing (quick books). They are willing to train, so now its just the hurry up and wait to see if I got the job.

I'm definetely feeling it right now. I fall into that under/over category too. Lots of experience from the army, but no degree to show for it.

when I graduated grad school 4.5 years ago, I had the same problem. It took me 5 months for the right job to come around! I was working at the Disney Store!

fast forward to today...I decided to look for a job closer to home last week. I am giving my resignation tomorrow...

I truly believe it's all about being in the right place at the right time! something really great will come along...I really believe it! don't be discouraged... :)

good luck!

When I graduated in 2003 (an MBA after having obtained another degree), I had bad luck with some job offers (got three offers, turned two down, the day I had to sign the third one, he said that in the end, the accountant said they couldn't afford me  ) and then it took me +/- 6 months to find a job.
I said: or I want a job I like in a whatever company, or i want a whatever job in a company I like. I got the second one, and once you're in, you're in. You can promote to another job in that company.

At one point, you just have to accept things, even if they are not what you wanted, while still keeping a minimum standard!

Good luck on finding a job, and as been said, networking is important. Depending on what kind of job you want, try to find out what those people do in their free time, and do that too (that's one of the reasons I started golfing, the other reason is to find a rich husband, ha! j/k)

I'm feeling the crunch, too. I graduate next month w/ my Bachelor's degree and am looking for a job. It's just so overwhelming!

I am in the over/under situation as well. I don't have experience in what my degree is in so people take exception to that even though I have a lot of experience. I am being laid off so there is a ton of pressure to find something right away. I am hoping the job market will pick up come the fall. Good luck to everyone!

I think that's part of my problem. I've had GREAT experience through school. I was working for the GM of a local entertainment company that hosts a multimillion dollar music festival every summer (100,000 attendees) so I was dealing with contracts and offers, schmoozing with agents, managers and artists, organizing a bunch of things going on for the event. . . It's one of the biggest things going on in this area and people think I got paid a loooot more than I did or that I'm too qualified for *just* regular answering phones, mail, sending out letters, etc. I'd be more than happy to start out with a plain ol' administrative position and work my way up. . if someone would just give me the chance!!

I've been "volunteering" my services (one of my degrees is in English . . . professional writing) and doing free freelance writing hoping that opens some doors, or at the very least helps me start early building a professional portfolio. I'm still hanging onto the hope that life is just making me wait for the perfect opportunity, but it's tough to be patient when you're stuck budgeting to the penny. I'm definitely going to have to look for a retail job or something in the next few weeks if something doesn't come along. At least that would give me a somewhat flexible schedule so I could take days off and work evenings if I have interviews and such.

Good luck to everyone in the same boat!
