Every year it seems to get worse.

I have to go clothes shoping, I have nothing fit to wear this spring/summer to work. Everything I had last year is litteraly worn out because I've worn it the past 2-4 years (because I couldn't find anything new to buy then, either).

So far I've been to JC Penney, Limitted, Express, NY & Co., Eddie Bauer, and Banana republic. Nothing, nada, zip, zilch. It's all ugly. It's all funky patterns with wild colors, or soft pastels (which I loathe wearing), or really weird hem lines, sleeve length, cuts, or fits. Or it's all stuff that would look great on a 50 year old business woman, but doesn't really work for a 30 something. If my mother was still working, she'd be in heaven, it's all stuff she used to wear just before she retired!

I'm going to try Kohls next, and maybe Macy's if I strike out a Kohls. I have to buy at least one outfit for this Thursday, I have to attend my company's convention all day and I have nothing in the closet that will work. I wear "business casual" to the office but my boss has made it clear that we need to dress "nice business" for the convention. Not so nice as to wear a suit (which I don't have either) but something just a notch below that. A conservitive skirt or pair of dress pants with a nice top would be perfect, and I have (or can get) said nice skirt or dress pants, what I can't find is a top to go with it!

Why can't there be classic style clothing with normal colors that is fashionable and cut to fit a normal sized person? You can still have the funky spring stuff, just put out some normal stuff too! Is that too much to ask? I guess it is.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh! :scared1:

Unfortuneately I have had great luck so far this spring.;)

I have seen a ton of cute stuff at Macys and I just ordered some cute shorts and tees from old navy. :rolleyes1

Nordstrom is my favorite for shoes

good luck finding what you want.

Maybe I need to go to Macys then. I haven't yet, I'm still miffed they took over Marshal Fields. But I'm desprate!

I do so much better in the fall, it's spring I have a hell of a time with!

ITA. I went to all those stores too plus Anne Taylor Loft and American Eagle- this past Saturday- got nothing!!! On Sunday I went to Kohls and got a pair of pants and two lightweight sweaters. I'm not ready for summer clothes and winter is too heavy.

I found my age group is terrible to buy for (38). Everything was either old lady looking or teeny bopper. My friend and I were so bummed. So we left the mall and went to a happy hour:banana:

good luck - I feel your pain.

Have you tried Talbots? I find they keep to a pretty conservative, classic line, which is great for office wear.

I soooo much prefer winter clothes. Big bulky sweaters and black tights under skirts. :thumbsup2 I don't really mind summer clothes either though. It's the in-between time (Spring!) that I never know what to wear and I don't like the options. It's okay when I'm just wearing jeans and a t-shirt, but I can't wear that to work. I feel your pain. :(

I can never find anything I like. It's always too short, too tight, too sleeveless, not black...

I usually find nice stuff from Ann Taylor Loft. But I'm 23 so maybe the styles are more my age group. But I thought I saw stuff that any woman could wear in an office setting.

I will say this. I went to the mall about 3 weeks ago looking for some tshirts. I passed by Forever 21 and was in complete shock. Every single item in their store was horrid!! All I saw were bright colors on ugly prints and very strange cuts. Now I don't mind bright colors, but these were colors that just don't go together. I saw one or two shirts in a nice style, but they only came in horrid patterns! I walked out feeling like I should clean my eyeballs. I have never seen such a vast collection of ugly outfits in my entire life!

I like spring fashions! But then, I like floaty skirts and sundresses and pastels. Oooh, and those cute high heeled sandals! :)

Just got a lot from Ann Taylor Loft before i found out i was pregnant :faint: hahaah! but i love it there!! ::yes:: (i'm 27)

You and a few other's here and meantioned Ann Taylor Loft, I'll have to check them out, we have one at the mall I go to! :thumbsup2 Thanks for the tip!

Still though, with 1 million differant retail stores out there, you wouldn't think this would be such a hassle!

I see you are in the Chicago area. You should try Forth and Towne. They have some beautiful clothes. I did some shopping at the one in Old Orchard on Saturday and got some really nice things. There is also one in Woodfield Mall too.

It has been my favorite store the past few years. I have been able to find really nice (not too trendy) casual clothes as well as the dressier and more business like outfits. The sad thing is, the stores will be closing for good at the end of July.:sad1:

I gave my son's friend a ride home, she's 17 and she had on the weirdest looking outfit on. She had on this multi-colored t-shirt thing that was cut on a angle with leggings that actually looked like tights because the material was thin. It looked like she forgot to put on a skirt or pants with the outfit. I didn't know what to make of it. :confused3 Maybe I'm just getting old. ;)

Woodfield is right near where I work, so I'll check them out. I think I've stayed out of there in the past due to prices, but at this point I'm willing to pony up the money, I wear clothes for several years so if they are well made I'll get my money's worth out of them.

Yes, I was going to write "try Ann Taylor Loft" before I saw that others had. I was there this weekend and was so happy that they had some nice things...l not too frumpy or too wild. You pay for that....but, atleast they have it. Also, there's not a lot to pick from, volume-wise, but the Isaac Mizrahi (sp??) part of Target has some GREAT business-y pants, and then in the "regular" ladies part, some basic, nice button-down type blouses, in good spring colors.

Good luck!!!

Everything that I've seen so far that I liked was in the children's dept.! :rotfl:
