Anyone else get irrationally jealous when others post vacations on FB?

I LOVE to see peoples vacation photos on Facebook! Its probably my favorite thing about using Facebook.

Since I have had health struggles and some of my friends have as well, I literally jump for joy when I see photos of them or anyone having fun.

In fact, if I know someone has gone somewhere and they don't post photos, I'll send them a note and ask them to post some!

Jealousy, as I've always understood it, is wanting to have something someone else has INSTEAD of them having it. Envy is wanting it, and being just fine with them having it too.

So no, I don't really get jealous of all of the vacation photos I see posted on FB, but I envy the snot out of some of 'em. (You can have your fishing vacations, canoeing, camping trips, and expeditions through the jungles of South America.) Right now, a vacation is something we may do every few years if we're lucky.

And concerning the other topic that's appeared in this thread, I really DO resent the people who flood FB with their vacation pictures. Or, for that matter, remodeling pictures, baby pictures, reunion pictures, yard work pictures, pictures of their feet, pictures of their dog sleeping, etc. etc. etc. In short, the yahoos that believe that no day is complete unless it's been documented with a few dozen pictures, all of which must be posted on FB. I always want to take 'em by the stacking swivel, give 'em a shake, and yell, "You were there! You don't need pictures if you just pay attention! I wasn't there, so your pictures mean nothing to me!"

We don't take pictures. Could you tell?

I love seeing people's vacation pictures, sometimes it helps me pick out new places to try.

I also enjoy posting pics of my vacations, especially interesting places like Paris and Ireland. I do this honestly mostly for my mom. She is physically unable to travel and she lives vicariously through our trips. She'll comment and ask for pics of certain things, like the Eiffle Tower lit at night. I don't intend to cause anyone feelings of jealousy or envy.

I understand why some people are jealous of vacations pics/posts on fb but I enjoy seeing the pics. It gives me insight to places I may want to vacation to one day or a look back at places I've traveled to and see another person's perspective on it.

Yes and no.

But I know that fb is. Not a representation of every day life. I'm happy with what I have.

No. I love looking at people's vacation photos.

I get annoyed with the hour by hour pictures of every single thing they are doing the entire week.

Vacation pics? Fun. Selfies? Ugh. I also hate minute by minute posts or "check-ins."

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

DH retires soon and we are headed out to see the USA in our new RV
We already travel a lot, very fortunate to have the time off and the funds
I sometimes don't put pics of every trip-I don't want to be seen as bragging

MY fave last year was the Blue Ridge parkway in NC last year-it was breathtaking-We actually were in the Smokies during the government shutdown-it was hysterical to see all the orange cones blocking parking lots-and LOTS of folks parking along the road and visiting the sites ANYWAY!

The end of that trip was my niece's wedding in a Vineyard in the NC mountains-simply wonderful.

Oh I'm so envious 12 more years of working till rv wanderlust mission.

Op I'm envious sometimes of vacations pics on FB but I enjoy seeing them.

Truly happy that my FB friends are having fun.

I over share places we go so I'm guilty and don't view it as "bragging".

Anyone I annoy on FB is more then welcome to delete me. ::yes::

I agree with this mostly. I'm not taking a vacation till mid next year at the earliest, haven't been anywhere huge since 2011, so as you can imagine I'm in a bit of a rut at the minute.

I'm not hugely bothered by people uploading photos to Facebook, so long as they are A) relatively varied in subject, and B) preferably without a play by play commentary. I've put a fair few vacation photos on my Facebook, but they are fairly different in subject, I haven't commented on a single one, and I put them up there in two 24 hour periods. I mostly did it for safekeeping. As it turned out it was wise since my computer got wiped for various reasons, so they only exist there at the minute.

On the other hand one of my friends is in the middle of a six month stint in Australia, with photos released every other day and comments like " OMG such great weather here, having a blast! #sunnydays #drinkswithfriends" and I'm sat at my computer in the house I've been trapped in for the past two years looking at the freezing rain. On occasions like that, envy is there in spades. With mayyyyybe a twinge of jealousy... ;)

Oh and don't get me started on people who update every time they go somewhere. "J. Bloggs just checked in at their toilet"...

I want to say like 30% of my FB friends are as Disney crazy as me and I would spend 95% of my life being jealous as it seems like all I see on FB anymore is vacation photos :goodvibes

YES! I completely understand what the OP is talking about. I have vacationed in beautiful spots through the Caribbean and know that I am blessed to do so. But this past spring when my cousin went to WDW without me, I was so jealous. I told her privately because we are close enough to do so. I also told her that she could message me any time of day during vacation to keep me posted as we all need a connection like that. Once the day came for her to travel to WDW, I was fine and we had a blast chatting through her adventure via text messages.

Yes, the green eyed monster is strong in me but I deal with it quickly. I've learned not to envy anything on social media as it's just 1% of someone's life. You don't know their struggles or pain.

Oh.....and by the way......I'm leaving for my first solo at WDW in 110 days and my cousin is so jealous, it's eating her up. So we laugh about it. I love her!!

I don't do Facebook so my answer would be no. Having said that, I'm just not the type of person to be envious of what others have or do. I love my life and really don't care about what other people are doing. I don't really even notice it.

And your point is? Other people replied after I did. Unless the thread is closed for comments, people are free to carry on a conversation.
Hi. You're new here - in fact this is your first post on the Community Board and I'm sure you found it off a link at the bottom of some other page you were on. Those links to old (and yes, sometimes locked) threads have been the toptic of on-going debate ever since they first appeared. You are more than welcome to post to them but someone will ALWAYS point out that it's a zombie-thread. Always. Don't let that stop you though, but I would suggest being just a tiny bit less aggressive until you get a feel for the general tone of the CB. You'll enjoy your time here much more - I guarantee it. :wave2:

I have a problem this year. We just spent our vacation money on a trip to Wichita Kansas for a wedding. We also have another 2 weddings coming up in Aug and Sept so we are not going to get any where this summer. I was trying to book a cruise in Oct but I it is leaving on Friday and I teach too late on Friday to make the ship.

I love seeing vacation photos! Sometimes I wish I could do some of the vacations they go on, but I'm not irrational about it. I just live through them and hope one day I can do the things they do. For example, I have a friend that goes on vacation for a week or two every other month. She went to Cabo last month and she will be going to Croatia and then a on to a yacht next month. I can't wait to see her pictures!

Not new. Not aggressive. I just don't know why people bother to point out the obvious. Some threads are years old but still valid so people still enjoy conversations. Thanks for your concern though. I've been enjoying this site for years.
