Anyone else get bumped from CR?

I'm new to this site, and really enjoy reading all the messages! We just got back from CR 9/22/to 9/27 (day after Jeanne hit). When we arrived, we got bumped from our CR Tower room to the Grand Floridian, the manager said due to damage from the previous hurricane. Did this happen to anyone else? I wouldn't have minded so much if I thought it was really true, but two days later when I checked again for availability at CR, they miraculously had rooms. Did they fix all the damage in two days? My feeling is that they overbooked due to the triathlon which was scheduled for that weekend. But we had made our reservations six months prior, and felt that it was somewhat improper to bump us, as opposed to someone else who may have made a more recent reservation. Despite all the confusion, and the arrival of Hurricane Jeanne, we had a great time, our daughter's first trip, and made the best of a difficult situation. Not trying to sound like a whiner, just wondering if any other families got bumped from their reservations. We've been vacationing every year since 1997 and have never had this experience before. Hey can anyone help me to post my vacation dates like everyone else does? I enjoy seeing all the different places people stay! Thanks!

I had read on here somewhere that the CR tower had some water damage and carpet replacement work going on after the storms. This may be the reason you were moved, but I would think if they were showing availability 2 days later they should have given you the option to move back to the CR then if you desired. Although you could have done a lot worse than the GF for a place to be bumped to. ;)

of the tower is clsoed I think. We just got back from WL and the Poly and saw the disaster response team vans at the CR. Saw what looked like piles of carpet laying in heaps by the building. GF is a nice bump though!

The triathalon had nothing to do with it. There was a lot of damage during the storm, and it needed to be repaired. In all honesty, not that many traitheletes opt to stay CR tower.

Sorry it didn't turn out exactly as planned, but I'm not sure you really shold be complaining. As others have stated, you got bumped to a more expensive resort, comparable as far as amenities and being on the monorail.

Sorry if it sounded like I was complaining. I realize that GF is their "premier resort", however, we really like CR. Mostly for the convenience, but we also plan all our activities around staying there. We dine at Chef Mickey's every morning for breakfast, and had two dinner also reserved. THis was our daughter's first trip there, and the building at GF (Sugar Loaf) was some walking distance to the monorail and restaurants (especially with the hurricane hitting), and it was simply more convenient to stay at CF. We really like the atmosphere and the theme of the resort. Thanks to all for the help, and for helping me to see it could have been worse!!!

If you had explained that at checkin they might have been able to get you a room at CR and bump someone else to GF. Many (most?) guests would be pleased with the upgrade.

I thought the tone of your post was more disappointed than "a whiner" as you said. It is hard when we put so much into the vacation and then it doesn't quite go as planned. Unfortunately, the only rooms at the GF that are inside the main building are concierge. Like the Poly, the rest of the resort is more spread out. You mentioned being in Sugar Loaf which is probably the closest to the main building and it contains the limited concierge service also. Is this where you ended up and had you reserved the 12th floor at the CR? When the rooms opened back up at the CR, did you move back or just stay at the GF? I imagine that the rooms probably only opened up because people chose to cancel and reschedule their Disney vacations. I've actually seen a few other threads where people mentioned moving into CR rooms that had terrible, musty odors and they had to relocated also. Did you end up keeping your ps's at the Contemporary and just take the monorail back and forth? How old is your DD?

We stayed at the CR tower 9/30 - 10/3 and the whole bay lake side of the tower was closed the entire time due to hurricane damage. A disaster relief firm was ripping out the carpeting in the rooms while we were there.

When they showed availability two days later, it could have been for the MK side or the wings. They certainly hadn't fixed it in two days - in fact when we left, a CM said it would take another week.

We saw people being bumped as you were - one family had called two days earlier to see if their reservation was ok because they had heard about the damage and CRO told them everything was fine - then there wasn't a tower room available when they arrived.

Does anyone know if it's all fixed now?

Bump - does anyone know if it has been fixed ?? I will be SOOO disappointed if this happens to me.... While GF would be nice, I've been dreaming of staying at the CR Tower forever!!

Thanks so much for the help with the signature! Maybe I was mistaken about the building we were in, because it was two buildings away from the main building. It was adjacent to the marina area where they keep that Grand Yacht if that makes any sense. We did end up keeping all but one of our PS's, one was so early in the morning, with the increased travel time, it ended up just being too early. We had just reserved a regular tower room, and when the rooms opened back up at CR, we did actually move back. My husband thought I was crazy for wanting to do so, especially since it was 9:00 at night, but I really wanted to be there at CR, and it actually turned out to be so much more convenient once we got there. Especially with the hurricane on Sunday, at least we were able to roam around the main building, which we would not have been able to do (to eat and shop) if we had stayed at GF. My DD is only 1 1/2 years old, and she did very well for her first trip.

Hey has anyone stayed in one of the suites at CR? Either in the tower or in the standard wing? We plan to have the whole family next year, and if were not too horribly expensive, we were wondering if a suite would work. I've never seen the inside of one though, so I wondered if anyone can recommend or not?

Thanks again for the help!
