Villas in the works for Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Disney Vacation Club has announced plans to build an estimated 147 villas as part of the previously announced expansion of Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Estimated to open in late 2013 near Disney's Wedding Pavilion, the resort's slated to become the 12th Disney Vacation Club property.

I just opened my email so it is confirmed. I sure would love to stay at GF Villas but worry again about a high point use for staying. I wanted to try BLT but can get two nites at OKW for 1 nite at BLT. Because we run just a bit point short I try to use the points wisely.

I am excited to know that GFV are on the way and will watch to see how much the point use is.

Definitely nice to have another choice but I would have to say the cost to buy in and the points per stay may be higher then I would like to pay. Looking forward to watching the progress on this project.

We aren't heading to Disney for at least a couple years. Just got back from a trip with 21 family members...pure chaos. Looking forward to going back again with just us and being able to see the new Fantasy land.

I always liked the look and location of the Grand Floridan.

Hope the points for a stay are reasonable.

VGF was confirmed at the Association/Member meeting held at WDW on the 8th. The pop of the air cannons launching streamers and confetti into the air almost made me wet my pants.

I also see the early annoucement of this as a current sales tool. During BLT construction, there were still lots of AK and SSR inventory to sell with lots of BLT to follow.

GF villas will be few and most likely be available to current DVC members first. DVC may be able to get some current sales by warning those on the fence to purchase now and be one of the first to get a GF add on or even risk not being able to buy in at all.

But who knows. Maybe better communications was the only motivator.

I wonder how they selected who would receive this notice? Or maybe it's just the usual IT problems? For quite awhile I did receive email notices such as these but haven't gotten a couple of the more recent ones.

At least I do still get my reservation confirmations!

Have you checked to make sure you are still signed up to receive emails on the members site? When everyone else got the announcement of Claire Bilby and I did not, I checked and I was not signed up to get emails.

Look under the News pull down.

Thanks for mentioning that! I've checked before and things were fine at the time but that's been awhile. It was showing no for receiving any information today.

Oh..I don't think it is the MOTIVATOR..SALES are always the motivator..but maybe someone there has finally figured out that good communication and owners' perceptions of that lead to better sales.
Maybe they also realized how ridiculous it was trying to pretend the elephant on the bay was nothing, nothing at all folks, move along.It is far better for them to make something official early in the game than to have their announcements constantly one uped by message boards.
As an owner I did like that they sent out info from the meeting almost as soon as it was over..they were only beat out by Doc and Mike by a bit
