Anyone else feel rooked about Kidani animals?

This may have already been posted, so please firgive me if it's a repeat...

On our last trip we were on the Wanyama Safari, and learned that there will be no giraffes or zebras in the savanna that Kidani overlooks.

I understand they will have a couple animals that will be unique to that savanna, but I can't remember the names.
But... Let's face it.
The most popular African animals are zebras and giraffes.

Anyone else a wee bit disapointed??

i saw in the DVD that kidani would have unique animals (the DVD lady said "bragging rights") but i didn't realize that kidani's savanna would exclude the zebras and giraffes...

(i would think "bragging rights" would entitle AKV owners to a couple of elephants or a rhino...not a giraffe-relative-but-without-the-long-neck...)

Okapi are actually pretty cool, but from what I understand they are very shy. I know the ones at our zoo prefer to be in the very back of the enclosure - they are rarely in a spot where you can get a decent pic of them.

Our guide sold us on the interior of AKV more than the savannas, so I can't say we were deceived.

The unique savanna will actually only occupy the west end of the resort. The other 3/4 of the resort will share a savanna also seen by Jambo House.

I honestly think you were misinformed. I'm sure the other 3/4 of Kidani with savanna views will have some form of zebra or giraffe for viewing.

Isn't the Pembe Savanna going to be quite small? It will be at the top end of Kidani. I don't know how far it will extend around the top "horn" but my impression was that it will be small and have some unique animals. I thought that most of Kidani's savanna view rooms will face the Sunset Savanna which will expand to about twice its original size and will continue to have giraffes and zebras and lots of other animals. On our Wanyama Safari they mentioned that one of the reasons they are actively breeding animals at AKV is so that they will have the additional animals they will need to populate the Sunset Savanna since it is going to be so much larger once the Kidani construction is complete. I'm quite sure that they are not removing the giraffes from the Sunset Savanna so most of the Savanna View rooms will have giraffe views.

We were also told that the hornbills that used to be on the Sunset Savanna a few years ago will be on the Pembe Savanna. They had to remove them from the Sunset Savanna because they liked to run under the service trucks. The new savanna will be small so they will be able to take care of it using smaller vehicles and that meant they will have a place for those adorable hornbills. We loved watching them on our first stay at AKL and it made my day when I heard they would be on the new savanna. And now that they've announced there will be Okapi there too, I think that is going to be a very special savanna. I love the giraffes and zebras but I am also looking forward to staying on the Pembe Savanna too so that I can watch those hornbills again.

Sorry, I didn't mean to upset you... Rooked may have not been the best choice of words.

I'm only relaying what we were told. That may or may not be correct info.

IF what we were told is correct, than 0% of the safari that Kidani overlooks (Pembe?) will have zebras & giraffes.

yeah, I think you were told wrong. Nothing will change with the Savanna that faces Jambo. Your source probably heard that the new Savanna will not have Giraffes or Zebras, and misunderstood.

You have it just as I heard it. The new savanna that Kidani overlooks will not have giraffes or zebras.
Jambo will still overlook the same as it does now.

Thanx, Debbie. I was under the impression that Kidani would primarily overlook the new savanna. Apparantly that's not the case..
