normal hurricanes predicted this season? We are going to WDW in Sept.
I sure hope we have good weather.
On the radio this morning they were talking about how it was predicted last year to be a rough season and it didn't pan out. Supposedly this year though there is no El Nino and last year an unexpected El Nino kept the hurricanes at bay. Wonderful!!!

I live on the east coast in Central Florida, and we really aren't worried. Last year was predicted to be bad, too, and it wasn't. Of course, we will stock up on the essentials like we do every year, but we will live our lives like we always do. We won't change anything because of something that may or may not happen.

Great thing about hurricanes is that you can see them coming, Now, you don't know exactly where they will hit, but you can tell somewhat and then take the appropriate actions. Yes, they can be devestating, but I can keep my family safe. The rest is just stuff and can be replaced.

I'm not too worried, I too am from Florida and I know that Disney is WONDERFUL during hurricanes. There is no loss in power, and the most that will happen is that the parks will be closed for that day. I'm sure it will be fine. I already told my husband that when there is a hurricane, I want to go to Disney!!

I purposely booked my trip for mid-October, hoping it's not a long hurricane season. Since I'm only going for a weekend, I can't afford to lose even a day to a hurricane. But really, it's all out of our control. Just hoping they're wrong in their predictions!

Like MiniGirl said, they predicted more than normal for last year too and it never happened. We go every October (sometimes late September) and have never had a problem.

Nope not scared. Takes an actual Cat. 3, or higher, storm heading directly at me to scare me. ;)

Like a pp said, last year they said the same thing about it was going to be a more active year than normal and luckily it was a very quiet year. Right now I'm knocking on wood that the same thing will happen this year.

Not trying to be a smart-alec or anything but hurricane season is the same length each year regardless of how active it is. June 1st, today actually, kicks it off until November 30th. Guess I need to pull out the hurricane glasses and go have a toast to the start of the season. :rotfl:

it didn't happen last year was because of an unexpected El Nino. There is no El Nino this year! Not trying to be a naysayer. I made the mistake of telling my DD (4yr old) that we were going in Sept. Now I'm worried that a hurricane will put the kabash on a great trip. Let's all give an offering up to the hurricane gods!!! LOL :rotfl2:

OK, if you want to be technical, yeah, the season is the same length every year, BUT most years you are not getting big storms in October, and it was considered rather unusual a couple of years ago when that happened. I don't sit around watching the weather channel 24/7, but to my recollection it seems the storms start tapering off by the end of September or even earlier.

Your more up on your weather info than I am! I check the weather by sticking my head out the door! :rotfl: Seems the weather men and women are the only ones who can be wrong 50% of the time and still have a job!

I just try not to worry about things I can't control and leave it at that. :upsidedow

We have gone in October the past few years and once had a hurricane hit. I don't remember which one, but the parks were closed and we had to stay in our hotels until they told us otherwise. By lunch time the parks were back open (only to resort guests) and we went to MK. Now, the temperature dropped significantly and we had to wear jeans and sweatshirts, but other than that everything else was fine. We are going back again this October and are hoping that the weather holds up! It is usually quite warm and sunny in October!

Technical.. anal... call it what you want. ;) You would be surprised by the number of people that don't realize that hurricane season is six whole months. Yes it is rather unusual to get storms in Oct. & Nov. and it was especially odd to get one a few years ago at the very end of the season.

I'm hoping we all have smooth sailing :boat: through the season. :)
