Just curious if anyone else is changing their vacation dates because of Jersey Week?

I was sufficiently freaked out by some of the Jersey threads, so we pushed our date back a week....had to add two days because we already had tix for MNSSHP 10/31!

I wish we could! My DBF is getting married in FL on Nov. 6, and we are driving down for that. We decided that since we were going to be in central FL, we really should visit WDW. At the time we made our plans, we didn't know about Jersey Week. We decided on the three days before the wedding for Disney (Nov. 3, 4, and 5). We will be there during the middle of Jersey Week. We went back and forth about which dates to go- we could have gone the three days after the wedding, too (Nov. 7,8, and 9). But that week is Veterens Day, and we heard the crowds are big then, too. So we are crossing our fingers and hoping for the best. The last time we visited WDW, it was in July 2002- so we figure if the crowds are thinner than then, we will be happy.::yes::

Friends of ours went during "Jersey Week" last year and said the crowds were fine, and they were able to do everything they wanted to.

Jersey week crowds are NOTHING compared to July crowds!

Actually, I'm thinking of changing my reservation TO a portion of Jersey week. :) I like the idea of going late Oct/early Nov for the weather. Personally, I don't think the crowds are going to be as bad as you must think they are going to be. I think they will be very tolerable.

I have gone 2 times during Jersey week and there were crowds, No long lines. The only time it got really crowded was during Super Soap Weekend and that was only at MGM.

When my friend and I realized it was Jersey Week when we are going (10/31 to 11/6 ) we started to do a lot of research. She searched posts on the boards and I searched information on the web. We came to the conclusion that the crowds this week will be just fine.

One thing I came across in my search is one year (i think it was 2002) Jersey week, Super Soaps weekend and Veterans day all fell with in a weeks time. Im sure that added drastically to the crowds especially towards the end of Jersey Week. I'm betting the post that talk about horrid crowds was for that year.

This year Super Soaps weekend is 11/13 to 11/14 and Veterans Day is 11/11. So I can not imagine that adding to the crowds the first week of Nov.

Those were our dates, too. There were so many conflicting opinions on the "Jersey Crowd" that I decided to play it safe.

November 2nd that week is also Election Day...plus the Food and Wine Festival.

Several years ago we went to WDW for 2 weeks, 1 'Jersey Week' (gardendame - tied to when NJ has a Teacher's conference in Atl. City, around Veteran's Day weekend) and the 2nd week non-Jersey. Not too much difference in crowds - but attitude :earseek: . We will NOT be in WDW during 'Jersey Week' again.

Please note that I am NOT saying that there is anything wrong with the 'Jersey' attitude, it is just 'different' from what we, in the more 'laid back' West, are accustomed.

As you can see by my signature line, this will be our 5th consecutive November and we keep going back.

This year should not be as bad as some in past as Jamie notes. Supersoaps is the weekend after. Veterans day is mid week.

I'm not worried at all.

Mary Ellen I hope you are wearing flame retardent clothes for that post comparing yourself and your "western" neighbors to the residents of the Garden State in an unflattering way.
Where I live has been voted the most polite city in America so you must know that it is difficult for me to even bring this up but I must say that I would rather be the only non-Jersey guest in the park than experience the incredibly offensive behavior of the hoards of Brazilian teenagers such as we have seen on numerous occasions.
I suggest you give the good people of New Jersey a break here on these boards.
Of course the above is my opinion and my opinion alone, I just like these boards to stay friendly. :D

Completely overblown. My first Disney trip w/ family was last Nov. After I booked (POLY NO LESS ) I was trying to plan a perfect Disney experience. Then the threads. I was ready to cancel then the Dis'ers calmed me down. Not slow but not busy. Hope this helps. Avoid ee !

People amaze me-how do you know that the 'attitude' was different? You have just grouped the people in the entire state of NJ as having an attitude. With everything that is going on right now -with the threats to NY and NJ you're worried about a few people from NJ. FYI, We are nice people, care about the feelings of others and probably have a life very similar to yours. I find it insulting that people would change their vacation dates due to this. There are rude people everywhere, I'm sure even in your "laid back west" that are rude and have some sort of attitude. Please do not make it seem like every person from NJ isn't nice. I find it offensive

Well, I didn't want to take any chances...to much $$!
We've also done the Oct/Nov trip our last three trips (No Jersey week, Veteran's Day or Super Soap weekend) and it's been incredibly uncrowded and quiet.
Also, I got two extra nights by convincing DH not to chance there being large NJ crowds.
Didn't mean to get anyone riled up!

Believe me Duchess you didnt rile anyone up. It was anothers comments that did. Your question was valid and asked in a nice manner. Here is the place to ask questions like you did.

Grats on getting the 2 extra days added. So when will you actually be there?

We were at WDW during "Jersey Week" last year and noticed a *definite* increase in crowds, more than we prefer. We won't be doing that week again if we can help it.

We like to say Jersey week is crowded so we can get the rude people from Colorado to stay home and not inflict us with their attitude. It spoils our vacation.

The Duchess - It sounds like you are going the last week in October. We went at that time last year and had a wonderful time with low crowds. We have also been during Jersey Week and the last week in October in definetly less crowded than the first week in Nov. It looks like you've been the last week of Oct. several times and are used to the lower crowds plus doing MNSSHP. I think you made a smart move if you really want the lower crowds. Enjoy your trip!

BTW, during our week over the Jersey Week period we met lots of great NJ people and we are not from NJ, but just below it - DE. The parks were definetly more crowded than we had expected (we usually only go during low times) but everyone was very courteous and friendly that we encountered. Many of the cm's were aware of the influx of Jerseyites and would ask people as the boarded rides or shopped in the stores, "what part of the Jersey are you from?" or tell you something they liked about NJ.

i've never heard of jersey week...but i'd be cautious about grouping any one state of people into a category! LOL that's just silly.

now...if it were during a major children's sporting event...i would reconsider. cause i've been in WDW during what i think was some kind of soccer tourney and the cheerleading thing....and i prefer to go at other times. and don't get me started on the days around grad nights in the summer.

but i don't blame the people from NJ for taking comments here personally. I mean, you just can't judge a whole state of people based on what may have been bad behavior of a few people!

Just like i don't judge all tour groups based on the one we got stuck behind in The Living Seas a couple years ago...the one with the boy (old enough to know better) spitting into the manatee pool. I gave him a look, he spit again. I told him to stop, he spit again. He wound up a third time and I told him i'd have security throw him out if he did it again. He finally decided to move on. none of the adults in the party cared at all what the kids did and they were terrors. reminds me of another story of two boys who were clearly old enough to know better who ended up getting their whole family tossed out of the WL because they decided it would be fun to shoot at the animals with supersoakers! :earseek:

so my point...do i have one? LOL. yeah, it's that i've met nice people from all over in WDW and rude people from all over in WDW.

i hope other people think i'm one of the nice ones when they meet me LOL. i mean, i try not to run anyone over with my wheelchair...
