Okay, so I have been using the word "prindle" when referring to the stick in the car that lets you go park, reverse, neutral, drive, etc.....

I never thought anything of it until I was watching "Suite Life of Zack & Cody" (an embarassing confession necessary for this story) on the Disney Channel. The snobby girl London (modeled after Paris Hilton, I'm sure) referred to the stick as a "prindle" as well and everyone laughed at her. This made me start questioning the word.

What do y'all call it?

Am I the only one who calls it a prindle? :confused3

I always called it the gearshift.

I've never heard the word "prindle" before... :confused3

I must have no imagination - I just call it the stick.

I've never heard it called that..I call it the shifter, I guess..

I have never heard it referrd to as such. I/we call it the stick or the gearshift. I Googled prindle, mostly comes up as boats. :confused3

Well, I just got the name because

It looks like "prindle" to me so I just always called it that. Today was my first hint that it's not what it's called :confused3

My dad used to call it a pernerndal stick. That's how he pronounced it, anyway.

It's probably a Florida Panhandle thing, Miranda. :teeth: :duck:

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: That's probably right, too!

It's funny because I live 5 miles from the Alabama line. It's not even palm trees and sun here.

We refer to where we live as L.A. No, not Los Angeles..... more like
Lower Alabama :rotfl2:

never heard of prindle either, call it the shifter here. well actually to say it right with the maine accent it is the shiftah.

Another "prndl" person here. My sister and I have always referred to the gearshift in an automatic as the "prndl" We once had a car with two low gears so we called it's shifter "prindl2"

Don't feel too weird Miranda or at least feel weird right along with me and my sister.

OH MY GOSH!!!! And thats one of my favorite shows!!! I have never seen that part! :rotfl:

I think that Prindle is technically the term. When I first got my new car in 2002 the light around the Park, Drive, Reverse, etc... wasn't lighting up at night. I called my car dealership to ask about it and he said, "Oh, you mean the prindle light?" (This was in Maryland.) Don't know if it's really the technical term, or if it was just what that particular mechanic called it :confused3

I recall an episode of "Green Acres" where Oliver was teaching Lisa how to drive and she referred to it as the "pernerndal". Great show!

That's what I was told it was called in drivers ed. in high school (we only had manual transmissions at home, so I'd never seen one until then).
