Anyone else avoid a resort because it is too much like home

I have zero desire to stay at WL. I live about 4 hours from Yellowstone and spent my childhood vacationing in the real western, mountain lodges. I can spend a long weekend anytime at the real national parks. So for my Disney vacation I want something more exotic.

So since I can't sleep tonight I'm wondering if someone from New England would prefer something other than YC/BC etc.

It is funny. I have lived in New England my whole life and a good portion of that on Cape Cod. But we just stayed at the BC and had a fantastic time. I really enjoyed the theme and it did feel familer but also very much different. It was themed more towards years gone by then what I would think you would find anyplace in NE now. I would stay there again.

Having been to the Caribbean many times (lucky) as a child, I would rather not stay at the CBR

Your point about WL is valid - being from the East, I loved WL and thought it was great

Always good to experience something different than what you know or are used to

I'm a BIG fan of the All Star Resorts and would much rather save $ on the room to have it for other things. If some day I wanted to upgrade I would never stay at the YC/BC. I love to travel to see new things and places, not spend all that $ to stay in a surrounding I can see any time I want.

Yes! I have zero desire to stay at CSR! I know lots of people really love this resort but I grew up in the southwest so it doesn't do anything for me. I've also hesitated to stay at POR 'cause I spent a lot of vacations in the south and now live there

CSR is one I have no desire to stay in. Living in West Texas near the NM border, it has no appeal to me. I'm not much of a Southwest fan.

I want to see palm trees in Florida, not pine trees. Yes, I do avoid staying at WL but I enjoy going there to "look" and having something to eat.

PO -- both sides, aren't like home but they also don't have enough of the tropical feel that I want when I go to FL so I have no urge to stay there either.

Pam - I'm with you (not just coz of Flower, either). I like the Palm tree feel when I'm in Florida. Loved the Poly and can't wait for the AKL. Also would be interested in CSR because of the Spanish infuence.

No desire to go to YC/BC. Live on a penninsula! Little coastal town folks call "quaint".

Do summer vacation every year in Maine woods, so WL is also not high up on list (it is beautiful!).

Our family was just discussing this topic the other day. I have an Aunt who lives in FL and her favorite resorts are WL and POR RS.
Another Aunt who is crazy about Disney really disliked WL, but loves the POLY. She lives in IL and says she can see pine trees any time!

I know exactly what you mean.... We live in South Florida so when we go to Disney we want to feel like we are somewhere else at least for a little while. I know many people LOVE CBR but I'm having a hard time getting excited about it. If I wanted tropics and beaches I can walk outside or drive 10 minutes for the real thing.

We ususally stay at POFQ and ocassionally splurge for AKL or WL when they have good specials for that "somewhere different feeling"

Absolutely! I don't think I'd ever stay at POR because it looks too much like home. Before I bought my house, I lived in an apartment complex that looks just like the "mansions" section.

We have a similar situation-- we decided against the WL becuase it looks so much like the Grand Californian at Disneyland resort which is much closer. I just don't want to think about Clifornia redwoods while I'm in Florida for the first time!

Living in New Orleans, I tend to avoid POFQ and POR. I can see that at home anytime!

Of course, since this will be my first trip staying on site, I don't know for sure. I have visited several resorts, but never actually stayed there!

I read somewhere that part of your vacation experience anywhere is to get yourself out of your everyday environment and into something different. When people ask me where they should stay at WDW I try to steer them away from anything that reminds them of home which can be difficult at times.

I live in Michigan and my only vacation as a child was to go up north and camp. I now really don't like the woods or cabins or anything that closely ressembles a pine tree! I go to Florida to see beaches and palm trees. I really enjoy the Beach Club!

Definitely! I'm another Texan, about 15-20 minutes from the Mexican border, who avoids CSR just for that reason. It may be a lovely resort, but for me, it reminds me too much of our area at home. BTW, I used to live in Massachusetts and had no interest in staying at the BC. Now I love it-we're DVC members and just bought points at BCV. Guess it reminds me of Cape Cod (sort of-without the palm trees).

I only live a couple of hours away from New Orleans, and we visit there quite often. So, I really have no desire to stay at PO. We also spend a couple of weeks at the beach every year, so I thought I didn't really want to stay at BC either! However, we decided to stay there for our next vacation. We stayed at BWI in December and loved it and it's location--the BC seemed like a logical choice! (also for it's great pool!)

Living in the south, I think it would be really cool to stay at WL too! We're considering there for May '04!

I live in Scotland, and our fave is WL. Yes, I can see pine trees here and mountains etc, but it's the whole totem pole/ native american things that we love. It's magical.

On the other hand, I would never want to stay at GF. I spent my childhood going down south to England for summer holidays and that decor reminds me sooo much of the quaint little hotels we stayed in. Ugh. Also, didn't find the staff friendly - kinda like being back in the UK.

Not like home exactly, but we had no interest in POFQ as we love New Orleans and prefer the real thing. In fact we will spend one day there on our drive down to WDW. It would seem really odd to stay in the real thing and then go to the fake version at Disney right after.

I think this is why I didn't like WL when we stayed there. We spend alot of time in northern MI and the real thing is so much more beautiful and bigger. After a couple of days it felt fake. We love CSR and like CBR. Staying at the Swan the first time in 1 month.
