Anyone driven to Florida from Canada?

We are from Saskatchewan as well and are planning on driving this year too. We plan to do it over 4 days while spending 1 day in Nashville! I went online at CAA and started a trip tik. It is fun to map out.:)

You guys and gals are my hero's. 4000 klm's one way! Your all nuts :rotfl:.
I will never ever complain about my 2000 klm's each way again. I'd be embarrassed. :o

Have a safe trip. Ours is coming up in Oct.

Your from Oshawa. So are we. We are making the drive for the first time next month. Do you remember what you pay in fuel. I was estimating 500.00

We live in Ottawa and are driving down to Orlando in June. However, we have family in Virginia so we will stay with them one night and then continue on. We regularly drive 9 hours to Long Island NY with the kids and they are used to it. (Kids ages 4,7, 10) We have also done the drive to PEI many times and chose to do it in one day instead of splitting it up. It was about 16 hours. No one seems to mind the trips. We have movies, books, snacks and music to keep everyone happy. My husband and I are pretty observant with the kids and if someone is getting a little stir crazy we plan a stop to let off steam. I don't think driving is for everyone, but for us it works. At home we have really busy schedules and the long drives are a really nice way to reconnect. I hope your drive is a success!

With a full size 05 Chevy Silverado with a 5.3l V8 it was around $500 in Dec of '08 (round trip).

Try this site out, it is very close for the amount of gas money to budget. Just start in Buffalo NY and add what you think you need to get from there to home.

Thanks for that calculator...we are going to budget for around $650 - $700 for gas roundtrip. :cool1: Much cheaper than the $2500 we would pay for flights.

We drove down from Ottawa Last Fall and are doing it again this fall. We drive a 2006 Ford Freestar Van, and last fall we budgeted $500.00 for gas and in the end did not spend it all. We had myself and DH and our 4 children traveling in the van, the back packed with suitcases as well as a fully loaded rooftop carrier. From empty, it cost us $60.00 USD to fill up at the pumps in the U.S. (much less than here). I can't remember for certain but do know we stopped 2 OR 3 times for gas on the way down. Better to over budget though instead of underbudget. :)

We are from the Montreal suburbs and will probably drive down to WDW this summer. Just used the fuel calculator! With the Toyota Prius it will cost us 178$!!!! Round trip!! Even from Burlington VT or Plattsburgh NY I can't get a flight for less than 400$. Since there is only 3 of us to fit in the car and one is 6 years old, the Prius is big enough and comfy. Our DS is used to car trips as we have family in NY and on the Gaspé coast.
Looking forward to our trip!

Although I love flying for the immediate results, driving is my preferred way of getting to Florida.
You are comfortable in your own vehicle, fuel is always less (most of the time) than the cost of flights, and no car rental to deal with when you get there. I actually flew a few weeks ago for the first time in a long time, and it was a pain always trying to remember that I couldn't bring everything home that I wanted to - it simply wasn't going to fit in the luggage!
If you take snacks, stuff for the kids to do along the way, stop every couple of hours for convenience breaks, you'll have no trouble at all.
Have a fabulous trip!
:goodvibes
