Just wondering how those who have their own direct sales businesses are doing these days?

I became a Southern Living at Home consultant last year (for Disney $$) and only did a few parties for the spending money. Now I think I want to start to have some parties again, just wondering what the climate is out there? Supposedly direct sales go up when the economy is down (theory that people would rather have a girls night in...); but I'm not sure that I buy that!!

I did just read an article in our Sunday paper here in NE PA that direct sales are up - they were interviewing those that did them saying how well they are doing (Avon, Tastefully Simple(?), Longaberger). No experience here w/ them, but they sounded really upbeat about the sales.

I've been a Cookie Lee Jewelry comsultant for about 2 years and my market is not doinng very good! I have not done a homeshow since Jan. People just don't want to spend money. Or, that is the reason I get. The jewelry is really inexpensive too so I just don't understand it.
I'm taking a hiatus from the business right now but plan on starting back up in the fall when the holidays are approaching. Hopewfully things will get better!

My DH works for a company that does inhome sales. They are doing very well because when the office calls to set up appointments people are actually home and will be home for the appoint times.

I'm doing great with my business! The company I work for/with/whatever you call it has had over 25 months of record breaking growth! Sponsoring has also been record breaking! I'm so thankful for it because that means I don't have to get a "real" job and have a boss or anything~!!!!!!!!!!

I think it depends on what you are selling... there are companies that sell needs & some that sell wants. In times like this, I would find it hard to sell jewelry, candles, baskets... but people are still buying food, make-up, lotions, etc!

Thanks everyone. SLAH has been an easy company to do sales for, so I think I'll keep my consultant status for one more year. Heck, even if I just have a party or two for myself and pass along some savings for friends & family it's worth it for me.

Best of luck to everyone in their endeavors!
