Anyone do this?

We're planning on becoming DVC members by next year. I've been playing around with points for the different resorts so I know just how many points we need to buy. Mostly, we'll be needing enough for a 10 day stay in a one bedroom. But occasionally, we'll need something that sleeps more than 4.

My question is whether anyone out there books two studios rather than a 2 bedroom. Points-wise, it's more economical to book two studios. We aren't going to be much cooking, if at all, so the full kitchen isn't a necessity. If anything, we'll reheat leftovers or buy things that can be microwaved.

So does anyone do this? There are no children involved, so we don't have to worry about having connecting rooms.

I'm sure many do this, but there are drawbacks.
You will have a kitchenette in the studios, so that is taken care of. The one big thing in my opinion is the washer & dryer. There's nothing like packing light, throwing in some clothes in the morning, and the dryer before dinner.
There will also be less living space in the studios, as there will be no living room area.
One more thing to consider is privacy. With a 2br, you can actually make a third bedroom out of the living room, so that is another private sleeping area if that matters.

It sounds as though you are thinking things through nicely. That's important with such an expensive purchase. :smokin:

That's a great idea to conserve points, but, once you've stayed in a one bedroom villa, it will be tough going back to a studio.

To save on points, hubby and I will stay in a Studio for the majority of our trip, and then switch to a 1 bedroom for the last 3-7 days. Sometimes we will switch resorts all together. That way, you get the experience without spending too many points.

This year we are staying in a studio for 1 week, then doing the 7 day Eastern cruice and then coming back for another 7 days in a 1 bedroom. Its like having more than 1 vacation experience when you switch it up.

Try calculaing your points using this technique.

A studio/inn room is good for a few days, but you can eat only so much fast food and afford only so much fine restaurant food. The money saved on points is more than spent on food. Kitchen + Laundry are the way to go.

I don't mind a studio for a night or two, but it gets old for more than that, and we never stay in a studio with more than 2 people. We do often use a Friday and Saturday night in a studio just prior to our guests arriving for a 2 bedroom from Sunday to Friday. That is our best "conserving points" hint. We stay in an OKW studio for Friday and Saturday night...move to the two bedroom portion of that lock off unit (with ressies linked) from Sunday to Friday, and then downsize down to the 1 bedroom portion of the same unit for the following weekend. It means we just tell our guests they have to leave by Friday LOL!

I think of the studios like a regular hotel room. I don't do suite hotels on most of my other vacations so I'm still OK having to 'downgrade' to a studio. The DVC studios are still nicer than most regular hotel rooms so it doesn't feel like we're suffering at all.

You can still do laundry for free in the laundry rooms it just isn't a convenient. I just throw a load in first thing in the morning and sit and read by the pool or sprint back to the room and eat breakfast while the machine is on. I allow 20 min for the washer and 30 min for the dryer so I don't miss the end of the cycle. It gives us a morning to ease into the day.

Any room at DVC is a good room!:hippie:

Thanks to all for your input. I hadn't thought about the no washer/dryer in the studio. That would make a difference. As I said, a one bedroom will fit our needs a majority of the time. But we may, at times, have a fifth or sixth person and it seemed just as smart to have two studios. But I think now I'm convinced that the two bedroom is the way to go when we have a larger group.

I did this last summer for 4 nights at OKW and it did save points, and gave us some extra privacy for a few days. The great thing about DVC is that you can try just about any arrangement.

Read my signature block. Studios only have queens and doubles. I really...

This soooo very true. We had a 2 bdrm in HHI over New Year's and a 1 bdrm over Spring Break at VB. We have a studio at WDW this summer and I am actually dreading it. Not the WDW vacation just the studio. I love the space and of course the washer and dryer. Like someone else posted I love to pack light. But, on a positive side, if you have never had the larger villas you won't even miss it. Have a good trip and good luck on your purchase. Hope to welcome you home soon.:goodvibes

We don't mind the studios at all. We literally are in the room to sleep and maybe have a drink or two on the balcony. We like to conserve our points and go more times during the year. It's only the two of us so it's not bad. And, we both work so when we go on vacation I don't want to cook or do laundry. That's what's so nice about DVC - there's something for everyone!
