Last week, I got a Gellish mani/pedi at a local salon. I had bought a Groupon deal, so it was a somewhat reasonable $25 instead of the normal $50 cost. It is exactly one week later now, and I just have a few minor chips on my finger nails, and my toe nails are perfect. I usually mess up normal nail polish on my hands within a day, because I use my hands so much. So, I can see that this type of nail polish really is durable! :cool1:

Does anyone do their own Gellish/Shallac mani/pedi's at home? I saw a Gellish starter kit on Amazon for around $25, and the UV lights to cure the polish are anywhere from $30 to the hundreds. It seems like buying the stuff to do it at home would pay for itself, compared to paying $50 (plus tip) for a salon visit. For anyone that is familiar with this, can you give me any advice on what to buy, tips, etc? Thanks! :)

I've been doing my own nails with Red Carpet Manicure for the past year. I bought the started kit with the
Travel light when I had a 20% off coupon from Ulta. I have no complaints at all. If I use a light color I can get 3 weeks out of it. With a darker color I usually change after 2 weeks because the new growth is so much more noticeable. I never have any chips, it's amazing. I'm considering getting the pro light only because it's so much faster. RCM uses LED light, supposedly safer than UV lights.

Check out QVC's Mally's Gel kit comes with everything to get you started. I just ordered the kit with 4 colors, the light, remover and all the other stuff you need. It was a Today's Special Value and my daughter loves it!!

I like the shellac because of how nice it stays. However, I feel like my nails are weak when I take it off so I go awhile in between. It might vary by person.

For a pedi, I just use regular polish because ir generally doesnt chip like s mani. But for a mani, I do my own with shellac. From what I understand, shellac is s superior product because it doesn't weaken your nails like gel, and removal is easier. Shellac generally lasts 10-14 days for me. Same (or a bit less) as when I get it done at the salon. I invested about $100 when I started, so it pays for itself in about 6 weeks. Gor everything i needed on amazon. The CND UV light was $$. I got the Thermal Spa one for a lot less and its worked fine. I definitely recommend going online to read about how to best apply so it lasts as long as possible.
