Did it require you to put in a credit card for the reservation??

I always thought this was an option, but today I'm doing my online check-in (woo hooo for 10 days :cool1:), but it's REQUIRING me to add a credit card to the reservation. This is a package reservation, already paid in full.

I never put a cc on file for room charges for many reasons & I really don't want to today either...but of course want to do the online check-in :blush:. I know last year it was an option, but it has been a full year since I've done the online check-in...is this a new requirement?

Anyone know if I put it in, can I take it off when I arrive? :confused3

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hmm - I did online check in recently, but mine is a RO not a package. I prefer to put the cc on file from home so they don't have to handle the card at the resort (no swiping required at the front desk). I just feel it's more secure that way, and for a RO, they would need to charge my card for the room since I want express check out.

It doesn't make sense to require a cc on a reservation that is already prepaid - I think it should be optional. I'll be interested to see what others have experienced on this one. I think the last time I booked a package was 2009, so things may have changed since then.

You could certainly request that they remove the CC number when you arrive if you don't want to have charging privileges while you are there. But honestly, I don't find the online check in to be that helpful anyway. If you don't want to add your cc number, then just don't do the online check in.

I believe a credit card is required even though you already prepaid your trip. The hotel needs to account for incidentals. If there is no "damage" to the room upon your departure, you will not be charged any more.

No, a credit card is not required to be left on file. I don't leave one on file. Now that is regarding regular check in, I can't speak for online checkin.

I did online check-in today and it did ask me for a cc. I'm guessing they are requiring it to avoid having to do it when you arrive as the idea of online check-in is to avoid all that when you arrive. As a pp said, you can always adjust when you get there.

Go ahead and do your online check in and give them a credit card number. When you get to the hotel, just tell them that you do NOT want charging on the card and they will take it off for you. That's what we have done in the past.

Thanks! I will. I just know my past online check-ins (always for packages) it was always optional & I don't ever remember giving them a CC for damages when I arrived or anything & I know for sure no room charging.

So long as they can remove it from room charging I will be fine, I just know it's changed & was surprised I haven't heard about it yet.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!!!

PS-10 days!! Eeek!!!!:yay::yay::yay:
