I'm taking my 73 y/o mom for her first ever trip to WDW in Dec. She is a very brittle diabetic with bad knees and high blood pressure, so will need to take it slowly. I am renting her an ECV from offsite to use during the ten days we are down there. She must eat regularly and frequently, whereas I have a tendency to forget to eat. I admit I am a commando type tourer who likes to go from sunup to midnight. Consequently I have made ADRs for almost every meal (in order to make myself slow down). We are doing CS only three times the entire trip (POFQ lunch the day we arrive, POFQ breakfast one day, and Flame Tree BBQ for lunch one day). I have about 30 TS ADRs (including like 9 character meals). We won't be ordering full course meals everytime of course and in fact I may be getting just fruit for breakfast and an appetizer at some of the other meals, but they will still be sit down meals, where we have to take a break. She mainly wants to concentrate on the dining, the characters, and Christmas stuff, so we won't be riding that many rides. Does anyone else do mainly TS meals?

With doing mainly TS and using the BRP for the room, obviously the dining plan would not have worked for us, but I do have the DDE card and from what I've figured we should be saving close to $200.00 with it. :cool1:

When we took my diabetic MIL last Dec, I made sure that she stuck to her normal eating times. (My father had been diabetic.) We did a lot of TS on that trip and slowly enjoyed all of the Christmas decorations. We had our 2 year old with us and it worked out well all around. It definitely wasn't a commando trip.

We always do almost all TS meals - in 8 days of eating 3 meals a day, we ate only 2 CS meals.

Yes, we usually do ALL table-service meals, due mainly to DH's diabetes, and DS's chronic hip problem. It works out very well for us because I make the ADRs before the trip so they are built-in breaks from the heat and walking/running we do in the parks, and also makes sure that we eat regularly for DHs' sake.

However, on our next trip (next week), it'll just be DH and I, and we'll be doing the Dining Plan, so this means we'll be trying some Counter Service places for the very first time! lol We're staying concierge at the Polynesian so all of our breakfasts (or at least most of them) will be at the concierge lounge each morning, lunch at a counter service place, and then table service for dinner. We'll see how this works for us. DH has already said that he will not mind paying out of pocket if we decide we don't care for the counter service places, or if we just decide we'd like to do a table service place for lunch.

I think in your situation you are smart to plan all, or almost all, table service places for you and your mom. I hope you have a great time!! :flower:

We do all TS meals. We don't like CS food. Plus, we love the uniqueness of many of the WDW TS restaurants -- Coral Reef, Marrakesh, Chefs de France, San Angel Inn, etc. It's part of the Disney experience for us. Like you, since we only eat at TS restaurants and rarely snack, the dining plan doesn't really work for us. But, we definitely use DDE.

With 30 TS ADR's, sounds like you've got things pretty well covered. If you haven't considered it, however, your mother might really enjoy tea at the Grand Floridian. My mom did when I took her.

We do almost all TS meals, too. We go twice a year hese days and feel no need to rudh around anymore. We enjoy sitting and relaxing.

There are only a few CS where we like the food. Another thing we don't like about them is how they tend to be dirty. I don't understand people who leave mustard on the table. Would they do that at home? Standing in long lines, fighting to get a dirty table to eat sub par food .. I'll pass.

We do all TS meals--haven't been to a buffet (except breakfast) at WDW in years.
And the DDE card saved us almost $200 last trip.

We do nearly all TS except for a few of the higher quality CS (Earl of Sandwich, Wolfgang Puck, Tangierine Cafe every now and then, Sunshine Seasons). With DDE, lunch prices at TS restaurants are just slightly above CS prices, so why bother with CS?

And yes, it is very smart to make sure you have it planned out, since it's that important!

Oh, and when my aunt and grandmother came up a few years ago, my (usually very active) grandmother had just had a knee replacement, so we had an motorized wheelchair and did all TS (in Disney and at the Universal hotels, where we stayed). Those ECVs are VERY hard to control, though!

I did almost all TS meals, my reviews, which I'm still working on are on here. I did 15 TS in 10 days.

I did very few CS (Tusker House, Flame Tree BBQ, Earl of Sandwhich, and Fountainview Cafe,) and I snacked at the food and wine festival booths.

we rarely do cs( we do eat around the world at epcot counter one night and occasionally cs breakfast), don't care for buffets( except husband loves brkfst buffets so we go to one at least once or twice) and so usually do ts. we however only do 2 a day as we find it to be too much food otherwise( wouldn't work for your situation). doing mostly ts gives us built in breaks which i need for stamina issues. maybe with tiny kids it wouldn't work bimo for us it's the only way to tour(:))!

however next trip we might get the dining plan as we are taking the crew and all ts might not work for them ( sil and d#2's bf eat "mass quantites" of food once a day and then only pick, gd will be 2 and might not like to sit that long ect)..guess we'll see how we like it.

We also stick to mostly TS meals. Part of vacation for me is having good meals and not just grabbing burgers and fries. Plus with DS food allergies I'm just more comfortable in TS settings where the chef actually comes out and talks with you versues you standing and reading an ingredient list at the cashier stand at the CS place.

We only do TS meals as well. Sit down dining as part of the vacation is very important to us.

We planned all TS meals for our first trip in Dec. My DH like to sit down and enjoy his meal. Also with Dec being such a busy time I was worried about waiting in long lines at CS (DS9 has autism and doesn't wait in lines really well). Are the eating areas for CS covered or indoors? I thought that might be a problem too if it were cold and many eating areas were outside. This is our first trip so I'm not sure.
We are also very go with the flow type to people. No commando touring for us.
To each his own. Do what works for you and have a great time. :sunny:

Part of the thrill of WDW is trying the different kinds of foods available. In 2 trips over 16 days, we have eaten exactly one CS meal - Pecos Bill's and it was not so great but I had a Q&C casual voucher to use. We do eat at buffets fairly often because our two boys can be impatient. Have a great trip!
