Anyone do AKL for your honeymoon??

Did anyone stay at AKL for their honeymoon?? If so, how was it??

We were going to stay there for our April 08 Honeymoon but I then found out about the construction work that they are doing there and they put me off. It is a hotel that I have always wanted to stay in so maybe some other time.

We then changed our weeding plans and are now getting married in Disney in July and because my family all wanted to be in the same hotel we picked port orleans french quarter.

We will be staying there for 4 nights next month as part of our honeymoon so I will let you know how it is when I return in January.

We stayed there for half our honeymoon. We loved it! We hadn't paid for a Savannah view room, but were lucky enough to be upgraded. We we stay at the AKL again, I will definetely pay for the view. It was incredible.

we're staying there next month too - checking in 9th and staying for 9 nights
I have heard that the construction isn't causing any problems, so hope it stays like that for us too.
We love Africa and wild animals so hope it lives up to our expectation and it's reputation, and that it proves it's grading as a 'deluxe' hotel.

We're staying at the new DVC section at AKL in February, so I'll be sure to report how it was!

I just got back from there with my family. The new DVC section is really nice. We stayed in a Savannah room. The rooms were set up a lot like the other DVC studio rooms. They did take out the closet to fit the mini-kitchenette, but they do have an armoire. This has always been one of my favorite resorts. My fiance loves it there too. There are nice indoor and outdoor fireplaces that are good to snuggle up to. The hot tubs are nice since they are surrounded by foliage and you feel secluded. They are nice at night to look up at the stars. Very romantic. Another nice feature is that it's all covered, just in case it rains. If you would like to walk to the food court from your room they have shelter over the main path. We will be staying there during our wedding visit in January. I would definitely recommend it as a honeymmon resort.

Ok, We just upgraded to AKL and here's my story for those of you who haven't read my 10000 posts on the January discount thread which you probably haven't DF and I have been booked at POR for our honeymoon for about 6 months. FINALLY the general public code came out and I sent it to our TA on the 31st (it came out about 11pm) and haven't heard from her. No email no phone call. She won't answer my emails of phone calls.... SHE FELL OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH. So last night I'm thinking GREAT this code is gonna be all gone and i'm gonna be stuck SO BRIGHT IDEA thanks to lollipopsmom (who helped me TONS last night). I priced a package last night online and NO ROOMS LEFT AT POR or POFQ with the code.... But low and behold AKL was coming up as having rooms avail with the code and to upgrade wouldn't cost a dime according to the quote online!!!! WHAT?!?!?!? COULD THIS BE?!?!?! We are only 19 and 21 years old and could only DREAM of affording a Deluxe resort such as AKL at this point in time.... At this point I'm shaking..... Nerves on edge.... I decide to print the quote and get up at 6:30 am to start trying to get through -- My goal was to be on the phone with a CM at 6:59am. It's now 2am and I can get 5 hours of sleep. I get up, sign on to the DISboard to request pixie dust, and then begin calling. 6:58 and I'm online with CM. I tell him it's our first time and our honeymoon and he says "Lets see what we can do, I'm sure you deserve some extra magic" Finally he tells me what I already know, POR and the code will not work... I timidly ask about AKL and he puts me on hold for about 15 minutes AHHHHHHH..... Then he comes back. "Well the future Mrs. Plyler (my soon to be name) it looks like I can book your honeymoon at the AKL using the discount code and actually still save you $60". OMG i'm dying at this point. Well, actually I screamed and kinda scared him. Thankfully he understood. So, I say all of that to say this - Before and After - here goes:

Did anyone stay at AKL for their honeymoon?? If so, how was it??

We will be staying there for our "mini-honeymoon" next week (11/15-11/18). I was a bit concerned about the construction as well, but when I was there in September (just visited the animals and Boma, didn't actually stay there) I didn't notice any construction at all. I'm still a bit nervous about it too, but I'll let you know how it is when I get back.

We will be staying there and at the GF for 10 days, then taking our first ever cruise (for 3 nights) in Sept/Oct for our honeymoon - let's hope the AKL proves to be great. We love animals and are spending the bulk of our time at AKL.

Do Disney think it will be ready for August next year? We'd love to spend some time there for our wedding/Disneymoon.

We will also be staying there for half our honeymoon! We start at GF, move to AKL (cause my honey loves the animals), and then take our first cruise ever.

We've never stayed at AKL - so I can't tell you how it is from a honeymoon perspective, but we're going to get a savanna view, spend time "on safari" and try to have a good time.
