Anyone do afternoon only at AK?

Thinking of doing AK one day in December from 12:30 to closing (which is at 5 p.m.). We have something else going on in the morning and in the evening. Is it possible to get fastpasses for the popular rides like Kilimanjaro Safari and Kali River Rapids after lunch, or would they have ran out by then?
What is it like doing the afternoon? How are crowds and lines? Thanks.

Curious about this too. I also have on my itinerary something similar for Sunday Dec 17th. We will be sleeping in, have a late 10:30 breakfast at 1900 Park Fair and then I wanted to go to AK for the afternoon.

IMO, it's very easy to do AK in one afternoon. I usually do it in the morning and wrap up around 1 and head off somewhere else. I went on Labor Day Weekend and got in two Everest rides, Festival of the Lion King, Kilimanjaro Safari and It's Tough to be a Bug all before 1 (we got there around 10). You could probably fit Kali in there with no problem as well. I'm not a big fan of Kali River Rapids, so I usually skip it.

Honestly, I think you'll be able to do it just fine. If you're going around Christmas (week of - New Years), it will probably be really crowded though, so you might want to work in some extra time just in case. We did this for Labor Day Weekend - wound up not needing extra time and were able to use that time for lounging and doing things twice that we wanted to catch a second time. :thumbsup2

If it's late December, I would imagine all the FP's would be gone, and there'd be 60 minute waits for the biggest attractions.

Early December you could probably get away with it.

We are going same day as MomofCJK, coincidentally, which is Dec. 17, Sunday. So both of us now want to know how it will work out for that particular afternoon--fastpasses still available, crowd levels, etc. The park closes at 5 p.m. that day, so we will have four to five hours, beginning after lunch.

FP for Kali and the Safaris will probably be available but you may not be able to get both with the FP windows like they are (by the time 2 hours has passed from the first one the other one may be gone but I have found it is really easy to ride the safari without mush of a wait if you jump on it as soon as the parade passes by the first time, just get to the parade route by the Safaris a little before the parade start time. The hardesty thing will be getting FP for Everest if you want to do that, although the standby queue is absolutely amazing and has 3 hidden mickeys.

I like the parade tip--so, you say the line will be shorter at the Safaris during the parade. Do you think the ride will be over by the time the parade comes back around, so we can catch it? Maybe we'll get FP for Kali then save Safaris for the parade time.

My DD and I are planning a very short AK sojourn this coming Saturday morning....DW is spending Saturday AM at the Grand Floridian spa, and she told us that she doesn't really mind skipping AK this time around. We've only got three full days, so this will help a lot, as we'll be able to spend more time at MK and, our favorite park, Epcot.

DD and I will try to do our favorite rides (Primeval Whirl, Kali River Rapids) and will take in all of the beautiful scenery. And DD also promised that she would give Expedition Everest a try this time...we'll see if she keeps her promise!
