I know most guests save time and money by eating breakfast in their resort room ... cereal, granola bars, fruit, pastries.....

But has anyone done dinner in their resort room ?
I mean not a DVC with kitchen facilities, but the standard resort room at WDW.

The only easy to pack & clean up dinner I know of is tuna with some fruit and crackers.

Any other idea's ?

I hear there are some good coffee pot and iron recipes floating around somewhere lol:rotfl2:

On a serious note, you could do peanut butter and jelly, If you pay a little extra you can get a fridge, you could then get lunch meat and stuff like that

I bring a travel water kettle, so we've done some things you can make with boiling water...instant soup, instant mac&cheese (those small individual packs), oatmeal. Bring some paper plates/bowls and plastic utensils. They are light and don't take up much room. No clean up.

Also, pb&j sandwiches, bagels, fruit, cold veggies.

Many of the counter service meals come w/ grapes or carrots...we save them usually for snacks or with other meals.

Think outside the box! Dinner doesn't always have to be "dinner" food. :goodvibes

Nope.
Let me start by saying it depends on what you call dinner. My family consist of 2 sons who have always been big eaters and a husband who would no way call tuna and crackers dinner.

Let me ask, by the time you finish with buying the tuna, bread, fruit etc.paper plates and soda or water. how much more expensive is it to go to the food court and purchase the combo meals (usually around 7 bucks each).

I only stayed at a value for 2 days and we did not eat there but I've heard very good things about their food courts and in fact many people say they are better than the ones in the deluxes.

I'm reading on all ears the menus and one of the restaurants has a hot dog meal for 6 bucks where you get the dog, pasta salad and fries for $5.79

Lastly, I'm just not big on sitting on my bed trying to juggle a meal.

We have done pizza in a regular hotel room but not anything more elaborate than that.

Yes, but we live fairly close to Disney and always drive and have a cooler. We hit Publix before we leave town and buy: subs, sushi, shrimp cocktail, fruit and veggie trays, Greek salad, pasta and potato salads, brownies and other bakery items and things I'm forgetting.

We really like having some dinners in our room just so we don't have to get dressed to go out. Of course, there's always room service.

We've never done an actual "dinner" but our first few trips we did eat in the room quite a bit. It was better for our family to "snack"-- DH and I don't like to eat large meals when it's hot and our kids were fairly young so they preferred to snack anyway. We drive, so our first day we would go grocery shopping. We would eat breakfast in the room, bring some snacks into the parks, and would also eat a bit when we returned to the room for an afternoon break and in the evenings.

We would have cheese, crackers, and meats like salami, pbj, yogurt, nuts, fresh fruits and veggies (buy pre-cut or bring a small cutting board and knife). DH and I had soda and we had milk and juice for the kids in our room. (Saved a ton of money only drinking water in the parks) A few times we purchased the large pizza (under $15) at the food court and brought it back to the room. Supplementing with drinks and snacks (you could even buy bagged salad and a bottle of dressing) we could have a filling meal for our family of 5 with one pizza.

I agree, you won't save that much. We've stayed Value and Moderates and the Value had the best food court. Both places had large meals that we could easily share. No clean up afterward and your room won't smell like food!

Not at WDW but at DL yes, but we had a fridge and microwave in the room so we took things like pre-made enchiladas and simply warmed them up. There was also a table and chairs in the room for us to sit at. We did Ramen style noodles, mac & cheese cups (where you just add hot water), chips, sandwiches, fruit, yogurt, cheese, crackers.....

We've never tried to cook anything in the room but we have eaten dinner in on several occasions. We usually just make sandwiches but I try to make it seem like more of a treat than usual by adding some extras - a veggie or fruit tray with dip, a couple varieties of chips, etc. Sometimes I'll also hit the bakery section at the grocery store and load up on all kinds of pastries - they can be part of our in-room breakfast or can be dessert when we eat lunch or dinner in the room. Even if I pay .50 or .60 per pastry, I come out ahead since those are usually at least $3-$4 each in the shops at WDW. We may be doing more of this on our next trip. I was just looking at some of the more recently updated menus over at All Ears and the prices are getting crazy. Of course, I know that's relative. But I'm from a small town and those prices are MUCH higher than what we're accustomed to paying for like items here - over $8 for a taco salad and $9 to $10 for burgers really adds up. And I believe those prices are pre-tax. Yikes.

We haven't done meals in a hotel room, but I would consider it if it meant we got to go to Disney! If I were to do a "meal" in the room, we might make our own subs, or have cereal, or something else easy like that. We'd be more likely to have food in the room if we had a microwave, at least. When we've traveled and just stayed in a hotel room, I always get so tired of dining out. There are times I'd rather just pick up a pizza and eat in front of the TV after a busy day at the parks, ya know? Now if I could only convince my husband! He'd rather eat at a restaurant than anywhere else, so convincing him to eat a pizza in a hotel room is a tough sell!

a really filling meal is a nice sandwich on a bagel. we brought our own bagels from home, got lunch meat from garden grocer and went to the food court and lightly toasted the bagels and brought them back to the room and assembled the sandwiches and ate them at the pool with soda (also from garden grocer) and a bag of chips that we shared.

One thing we have done at WDW that is sort of a compromise is this:
We would bring pringles and can drinks and cookies from home and then purchase some type of sandwich from the food court. Saves a lot of money and no work involved.

We most recently stayed at the Swan and brought take out back to our room all the time. Pizza and salads, burgers, they have a chicken market meal at Picabu which is a whole chicken and 2 side. The kids made sandwiches when they wanted a snack.

There is a microwave in the food court that you can use. Maybe bring cans of soup? There are also meals that are shelf stable that would be easy to store in your room without a fridge. These are things like Hormel chili mac or Healthy choice pastas. I haven't ever tried those, so don't know how they work. But I have seen them on the shelves at the store.

I've also heard on here that you can get some cheap food at the Hess station. They have hot dog meals for $1.50 or something like that. Do a search and get more details. They might also have pizza.

You could order a pizza from Dominos or something that would be pretty inexpensive.

We prefer to eat out while we're on vacation, but we did have a fun "eat your own food" Christmas Eve brunch at Pop. We had one of those big Hickory Farms cheese and sausage boxes. Bought a couple of salads from the food court and ate out by the pool! It was a nice "light" meal since we had a big dinner planned for that night.

We don't eat dinner in the room, only breakfast or lunch (sandwiches), but we do like to order pizza and eat it by the pool. I pack a few paper plates and napkins from home.

We are the envy of everyone @ the pool.....they would be even more envious if they knew about the special drinks the adults had in their red cups. :rolleyes1

If you have a fridge and microwave available you can do a little cooking ahead of time. My mom actually brought frozen fried rice from my favorite restaurant on her flight to Japan for me (Yes, I needed my special fried rice while living in Japan LOL). It made it just fine. She pre-froze it and stuck it in a cooler. I've also made up things like lasagna and individually packed them and then reheated in hotel rooms when we had a 4-5 hour drive. I would freeze them at home.

We're planning on taking at least some meals with us (for lunch or dinner) and doing some pizza take out too :goodvibes

We have done room service before, on a rainy night. It took over an hour for the food to get to us. Rainy nights at hotels without a quick service restaurant can be rough as far as food options, especially if you have picky eaters for kids.
