Can anyone tell me if this is worth it. I have a son in college who is majoring in mechanical engineering. Do you think this is something that would be interesting to him? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, it is definitely worth it! My brief trip report post follows....

Good for you! You're sure to enjoy it. We just did Dinner with and Imagineer at Artist Point last week. We dined with Cathy Carver, principal interior desigenr for WDI. She has been with Disney for 30 years, recently lead the team to create the Cinderella Suite in the Castle, the new Emporium shop on Main St. and is currently working on the public areas for AKL Villas. Great conversation and dinner. Fabulous.

Enjoy!

Anyone know if Artist Point and the HBD are the only places this is held? Do you know which one is better? I'm looking at the menu items for the HBD and I don't think my boys would like the appetizer or salad. I'd hate to pay for something they won't eat. I was wondering what Artist Point's menu looked like.

Currently, these are the only places they are held. I did see one rumor that they might be being discontinued and I could not find this tour on Disney's site. For AP, the menu is a special menu for the event, with 2 chioces of appetizer, entree and dessert each. Substitutions are generally not allowed. There is an age requirement for dining with an Imagineer - 14 or 16 I believe.

oh, I found my earlier trip report for our dinner with an imagineer

We dined with Cathy Carver who is principal interior designer with WDImagineering. She was wonderful! There were 2 other couples at our table so the 6 of us had had Cathy to ourselves through dinner. She introduced herself and began by asking each of us a bit about ourselves and why we had selected this event. She went on to discuss herself, how she came to Disney (30 years ago) what recent projects she has worked on and what she is currently working on. We were able to ask any questions we wanted, to whatever detail we desired. She was very accomodating. She had recently been the project lead for the Castle Dream Suite and the new Emporium annex on Main Street. Currently she is working on public spaces, restaurant and retail, for the new AKL Villlas. The Castle Suite is amazing and you could tell she was most proud, not only of her work, but just how committed Disney was to make this a truly magical place and experience. Our evening lasted a little over 2 1/2 hours. Dinner was excellent. We received a personlized menu, with 2 choices each of appetizer, entree and dessert and a personlized name card. Cathy talked so much with us, she had to take her dinner home in a 'doggy bag'. At the end of our evening, each pair was given a personlized commemorative plate.... black with gold etched Mickey Sorcerer, only available for 'Dinner with an Imagineer', signed by Cathy. I understand that the Lunch gives a smaller black glass plate, similar. The tab for the two of us, with tax and tip was $271. A great evening and I would and will do it again.
You never know who you will get. Part of the fun and mystery. Awesome!

At my Lunch with an Imagineer last year, there were two young teenage boys. One of them didn't like much of what was on the menu, so the restaurant gladly substituted items from the kids menu. The parent got no 'break' on the price, though.
