Not that I really want to think about winter, but...

I just bought a new car. Previously I've driven SUVs that were big enough (and had fabric interiors) to just put the rear seat back down and throw the cross country skis in the back of the car. This car has a leather interior, and isn't quite long enough to just put the seat back down, and have the skis only extend into the backseat (Honda HR-V). I COULD extend the skis into the front seat, but I don't really want snow covered skis dripping on my leather seats.

How do you transport your cross country skis with a smaller vehicle? Roof box? Do standard ski racks work for cross country skis? I'm not a downhill skier, so I'm not familiar with ski racks...

I have to get cross bars for a bike rack anyway, just trying to figure out what other accessories I'm going to need to get.

We just use the roof rack that came with the car, and use a rope to fasten the skis with. Have not bought anything special to transport them (and we use them just about every weekend during winter).

Do you ski often? If it's just a few times a year I wouldn't bother with a roof rack. I would get a bag for the skis and put them in the bag and put up the center of the car. Then you don't have to worry about snow or scuff marks in your car.

We have a ski roof rack. I can't imagine why it wouldn't work for cross country skis.
