Anyone Crafty? Car mats..

My son has one of those car rugs with the roads on it and he LOVES it. I was wanting to make one with some of our local sites on it and a BIG parking lot(he loves to park them) Any ideas on how to do it? I know I have seen painting on the back of a linoleum scrap? Would that work? And what type of paint should I use?

Not really sure about the linoleum mat because I haven't tried it, though I think acrylic paint should work because it won't be walked on like a rug. I'd definitely clear coat it well, though.

My SIL made a blanket-type car mat many years ago for my DS...It was a ready made fabric panel and she just added some embroidered names onto the store fronts and other buildings to personalize it...like "John's Toys" or "Sue's Sweets", but using my kids' names and our last name. It was cool, and easy to transport.

As you've never done it before, I would recommend using canvas. It's sturdy, cleanable and can stand up to a kid's usage. Just google Canvas Floor Mat and you get lots of ideas. Good Luck!
